Barnes undergoes successful sports hernia surgery

Darrius Barnes vs. FC Dallas

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution defender Darrius Barnes underwent successful surgery to repair a sports hernia on his right side earlier this afternoon. The procedure was performed by Dr. David Berger at Massachusetts General Hospital earlier today.

Barnes’ recovery and rehabilitation period is expected to be approximately six weeks, and he is expected to be ready for the start of preseason training after the New Year.

Barnes, 23, appeared in 21 games, starting 20, in 2010, and played 1,800 minutes, almost exclusively as a central defender. As a rookie in 2009, Barnes was the only field player in the league to play every minute of all 30 MLS games.

The Revolution concluded the 2010 MLS season with a 9-16-5 overall record (32 pts.) and was sixth in the MLS Eastern Conference. The team is currently going through postseason workouts at Gillette Stadium.

Season tickets for the 2011 season are now available, and start at $216 for 17-game packages. Call 1-877-GET-REVS or click here for more information.
