FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – In 2011, the New England Revolution is making a major change to its home at Gillette Stadium.
For the first time since the stadium opened in 2002, the Revolution will open the seats on the West side of the stadium for the full season, creating a full-bowl seating configuration. For the last nine seasons, Revolution fans have been seated only on the North and East sides of Gillette Stadium.
“We are very, very excited about creating a full-bowl set-up,” Revolution Chief Operating Officer Brian Bilello said. “We have previously made several changes to create a more intimate atmosphere in our 68,000-seat stadium, but one thing our fans have been passionate about through this process is seating fans all the way around the bowl.
“We believe having fans seated on both sides of the stadium, with our supporters groups at the north end, will create a more dynamic, energetic atmosphere at all of our home games. We’ve seen this at some recent events which have necessitated a full-bowl seating arrangement, and we’re looking forward to experiencing this at every game next year,” Bilello said.
The full-bowl configuration will be created by opening the first 25 rows in sections 101 through 115 and 126 through 143. The top 10 rows in each section will be covered by decorative tarps, while the South end zone (sections 116 through 125) - which is already unavailable for most of the spring and summer because of other Gillette Stadium events – will be unsold. The North end zone will continue to be the primary home for the team’s supporters groups.
The newly-opened West side will create four new sections of prime Category I midfield seats (sections 130-133), while also adding four sections of Category II (128-129, 134-135) seats, and four Category III sections (126-127, 136-137).
New season seat sales and renewals begin on Saturday, Aug. 7. Current season ticket holders will receive a significant discount on their renewals through Sept. 30, while all fans will be eligible for reduced season ticket prices through Nov. 24. The 2011 season ticket packages will again include 18 matches, and will start at $270 in the early-purchase window.
In conjunction with the new game day stadium configuration, the Revolution is launching a new marketing campaign to drum up interest in the West side seats. The team’s “2011 Midfielders Wanted” campaign is a multi-faceted program that includes in-stadium, advertising and digital assets, and will feature prominent Revolution midfielders as the team looks to promote the new midfield seats available beginning in 2011.
