FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution has waived midfielder Michael Videira.

Videira, 24, signed with the Revolution in December 2008 after playing for six months with Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League. New England originally drafted Videira out of Duke University in the second round (18th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.

The Milford, Mass., product made 12 MLS appearances for the Revolution – all in 2009 – including five starts. He did not make an appearance in 2010.

“We want to thank Michael for his time with us,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “He was a good professional during his time with us, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The Revolution (4-9-2, 14 pts.) returns to MLS regular-season action on Saturday, July 31, when the team travels to Chester, Pa., to face the expansion Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., with Comcast SportsNet New England televising the game, and 98.5 The Sports Hub carrying the game on the radio.
