Former New England Revolution midfielder Pat Noonan is in camp with Seattle Sounders FC, MLSsoccer.com confirmed Monday. A team official said that the veteran midfielder trained with the club at the team’s Tukwila training ground today.

The 29-year-old player began last season with the Columbus Crew before being traded to the Colorado Rapids in midseason. He played 17 games with the Rapids over the stretch run but was released by the team last Tuesday.

Seattle coach Sigi Schmid would likely be looking for Noonan to plug Seattle’s hole at right midfield. Former USL player Roger Levesque, who rattled off a series of strong performances towards the end of the 2009 season, started in that position against the Philadelphia Union. Levesque, however, had a forgettable game which included a howler of a missed opportunity.

With Seattle threatening to make the lead 2-0, Levesque mishit Steve Zakuani’s cross in front of the goal.  

Noonan, who was one of the league’s brightest stars when he came into the league, has struggled with injuries over the past several seasons. The St. Louis area native, who has 12 caps for the full national team, has lost a step but still possesses a good feel for the game. He can also deliver pinpoint crosses with his right foot, a quality Seattle is lacking right now.

Seattle saw that ability first-hand during a home game against the Crew on May 30 of last year. Noonan, playing on the right side, crossed the ball into an exceedingly small window to set up a headed goal from Alejandro Moreno.

Over his decade of service, Noonan has notched 40 goals in 152 matches for three MLS teams, but is best-known for his role on the great New England teams of the mid-2000s. In 2008, Noonan went abroad and played a half-season with Norwegian club Aalesunds FK.
