FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have hired Anton McElhone as the club's new Head of Fitness. McElhone joins New England after more than 13 years working with top-flight clubs in the United Kingdom, including the last 10 seasons with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
"Anton's experience at the very highest level of world soccer will be essential for our players to reach the physical fitness required to compete at elite levels," Head Coach Brad Friedel said. "I worked with Anton for four years while at Tottenham and I know from firsthand experience all the qualities he possesses on and off the field. His dedication and professionalism will be important pieces for us as we work to move the club forward."
McElhone has spent the last 10 years on the technical staff of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur F.C., including the last six as the club's First Team Fitness and Reconditioning Coach. He assumed the role in July 2011 after nearly four years as the Development and Fitness Coach of the Under-21 and Under-18 squads, where he oversaw strength and conditioning and sports science beginning in November 2007.
Prior to joining Tottenham, McElhone began his professional career as the First Team Sports Scientist with Hibernian FC in the top-flight Scottish Premiership. He spent three years with Hibs from 2004-07, the first two while earning his Master of Science degree in strength and conditioning from the University of Edinburgh.
McElhone received his undergraduate degree in sports studies with exercise science from the University of the West of Scotland in 2004, and also holds a UEFA A coaching license.
