MLS Cup Playoffs

The Revs made a return to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2009, using a late-season surge to move up from seventh in the East with four weeks remaining in the season, all the up to third place on the season’s last day. Paced by a young, exciting corps of players, the Revs turned heads around MLS with an attractive style of play and regular flashes of brilliance from its youthful players. Led by 18-year-old Diego Fagundez, who’s 13 goals were tied for fifth in MLS, 20-year-old U.S. international Juan Agudelo (acquired in May from Chivas USA) and 21-year-old midfielder Kelyn Rowe, the Revs’ posted the East’s third-highest goal total. On defense, off-season signee Jose Goncalves and number-one overall draft pick Andrew Farrell anchored what was one of MLS’ top defenses all season. The Revs stormed into the playoffs on a six-game unbeaten run (6-0-2), before falling in the team’s Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against Sporting KC, 4-3 on aggregate after winning the first leg at Gillette Stadium, 2-1.
