New England Revolution
Naoko Funayama returns to the NBC Sports Boston broadcast team for her fourth season as the Revolution’s sideline reporter, providing field-level analysis alongside play-by-play voice Brad Feldman and color analyst Charlie Davies. Funayama brings more than 15 years of broadcasting experience on New England airwaves to the Revolution’s sidelines.
The Boston University graduate began her career on local television an anchor and reporter in August 2004. She continues to work with the station as a freelance reporter, and has also contributed as a producer in the sports department. During her time with WMUR, Funayama has covered a wide range of professional and collegiate sports including MLB, NFL, NASCAR, and Hockey East.
Funayama became a full-time reporter at NESN in 2008, working as the Boston Bruins’ rinkside reporter and host of the team’s pregame show, “The Buzz,” as the team made runs to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals in 2011 and 2013. Funayama was chosen to present the Hockey Legacy Award to Bruins legend Derek Sanderson in September 2013, just after the conclusion of her final season with NESN.
In 2007, Funayama first joined NESN as a freelance sports reporter covering the Boston Red Sox. She was hired by the network after working as translator for Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka’s introductory press conference.
