Banfill named Equipment Manager of the Year

Revs' Brian Banfill honored as Major League Soccer’s best equipment manager following his fourth year in the position

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution equipment manager Brian Banfill has been named the 2009 Major League Soccer Equipment Manager of the Year, the league announced on Tuesday. MLS annually recognizes individuals and clubs for outstanding contributions off the field with its club and executive award winners.

This is Banfill’s first honor as the league’s equipment manager of the year.

A former game day volunteer prior to being hired full-time as the club’s equipment manager in November 2005, Banfill recently completed his fourth season with the Revolution. He has previously been honored for his exemplary work with selections to serve as the equipment manager for both the 2007 MLS All-Star Team that defeated Scottish giant Celtic FC, and the 2008 All-Star Team that topped West Ham United.

Banfill’s responsibilities include ordering and maintaining the team’s uniforms, practice gear and equipment, and overseeing the game day equipment staff that assists in both the Revs’ and visitors’ locker rooms and on the field. He also works closely with the technical staff on setting up and equipping training sessions both at home and on the road.

The 2010 MLS SuperDraft is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14, in Philadelphia, while the Revolution is scheduled to open the 2010 season on the road against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, March 27, at The Home Depot Center.
