Revs sign African forward Ombiogno

Revs add young striker to fill international roster spots




FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that the club has signed Stephane Assengue Ombiogno, a forward from Cameroon, to a Major League Soccer contract to play for the Revs. He will occupy one of the team’s seven available international roster spots. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not released. He will join the team pending the receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa.

Assengue Ombiogno, 19, comes to the Revolution from Daga Young Stars, a regional team in Western African country of Cameroon.

“Stephane is a young forward who we believe has potential to make a great impact on the Revolution,” Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “We’re looking forward to his arrival after he obtains his Visa and helping him acclimate to MLS.”

The Revolution next faces the rival New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 28. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Fox Soccer Channel will have the exclusive broadcast of the match, starting at 7 p.m. with a live pregame show. WRKO 680 AM will carry the game on the radio in the Boston area.
