FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Saer Sène and Fernando Cardenas scored first-half goals and goalkeeper Matt Reis made six saves to earn his 100th career regular-season victory as the New England Revolution claimed a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium.
Midfielder Jaime Castrillon gave the Rapids (4-5-0, 12 pts.) the lead with a 21st-minute header, but Sène leveled the score in the 27th minute with his team-leading third goal of the season and Cardenas registered the eventual game winner in the 39th minute. With the win, the Revs (3-5-0, 9 pts.) snapped a three-game losing streak and earned their first win over the Rapids since 2007.
Reis picks up 100th win in gritty victory over Rapids
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Jay Heaps had seen his New England Revolution side play stretches of attractive soccer in recent weeks, but the end result was one goal scored, zero points and a three-game losing streak.
With that in mind, Heaps called for a different approach on Wednesday night against the Colorado Rapids. Toughness and a healthy dose of determination were the key messages ahead of the midweek match and the result – a slump-busting 2-1 win – was just what Heaps ordered.
"Going down 1-0 at home, some of us will hang our head a little bit for a few seconds after. Then we caught a break and got the second goal, and it wasn’t the prettiest goal. But we just have to take the three points and run away with it." - Shalrie Joseph | POSTGAME QUOTES >>
