Academy Update: U-16s wrap up Generation adidas Cup; U-14s and U-13s earn wins

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy returned to the pitch this past weekend when the Under-14s and Under-13s traveled to Brooklyn, N.Y. for matches against BW Gottschee Academy, while the Under-16s concluded play in the 2017 Generation adidas Cup Finals.


All four teams will resume USSDA play this weekend in Purchase, N.Y. against Everton FC Westchester.


Generation adidas Cup

The Under-16s completed the eight-day Generation adidas Cup Finals in Frisco, Texas. The Revs competed in Group B of the Premier Division and played the Philadelphia Union (April 7), the Chicago Fire (April 9), and C.F. Monterrey (April 11). Following group play, New England went on to play the Portland Timbers (April 13) and Deportivo Saprissa (April 15).


In addition, an Under-12 team featuring players from Revolution Academy U-12 Alliance partner clubs Bayside FC, NEFC, and Valeo FC competed in the 7-v-7 tournament. The team played in Group D of the competition and played matches against Seattle Sounders FC (April 13), New York Red Bulls (April 13), Houston Dynamo (April 14), and Malaga C.F. (April 14). The U-12s closed out the tournament with matches against D.C. United (April 15) and Atlanta United FC (April 15).


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Forward Gustavo Cassemiro '00 (Framingham, Mass.) led all Revolution Academy players at the Generation adidas Cup by recording two goals and an assist over five matches.
  • Forward Felipe Vieira '03 (Malden, Mass.) recorded a pair of goals for the U-14s in their 3-1 victory. Vieira has recorded a combined 11 goals on the season at the U-16, U-14, and U-13 levels.
  • Forward Michael Tsicoulias '02 (Newton, Mass.) registered two assists in the U-14s' win. The forward has five assists on the year to go along with six goals.
  • Midfielder Patrick Leal '03 (Newton, Mass) assisted goals scored by midfielder Hikaru Fujiwara '03 (Lexington, Mass.) and forward Andrew Serafino '03 (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in the U-13s' 2-0 victory over BW Gottschee. Leal has five assists over the last three weeks for the U-13s.
  • Goalkeepers Eliot Jones '03 (New Britain, Conn.) and Nickolas Cardona '03 (Roxbury, Mass.) combined for a shutout in the U-13s' win. The pair has combined for a shutout on seven occasions this year.
