Nguyen benefits from off weekend, back to full health ahead of visit to FC Dallas

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Lee Nguyen didn’t necessarily want a weekend off, but the New England Revolution captain no doubt benefitted from the postponement of the club’s home opener.

Nguyen, who limped off just 57 minutes into the Revolution’s season opener against the Colorado Rapids with an ankle contusion, would’ve been available for selection against Orlando City SC according to head coach Jay Heaps, but the postponement of the match because of extreme weather offered Nguyen a bit of extra time to let the knock fully heal.

“Lee was going to be ready,” Heaps said on Monday morning. “In the end, it was good for those guys to get a little bit of rest and be back in training today.”

Nguyen was a full participant in the Revs’ training session on Monday, while Zach Herivaux worked separately on agility exercises as he recovers from the ankle injury that he suffered almost a month ago in a preseason meeting with the Houston Dynamo.

Tuesday’s training session was cancelled because of blizzard conditions brought on by Winter Storm Stella, but Nguyen and his teammates will be back to work on Wednesday as they prepare for this weekend’s visit to the defending Supporters’ Shield champion FC Dallas.

As they do so, they’ll be rested and refreshed.

“We got an off weekend and guys – I hope – took advantage of it,” said Scott Caldwell. “We got a little time off and now we’re back in for a big week this week.”
