Revolution Academy Update: September 15, 2016

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-18 and Under-16 teams kicked off the 2016-17 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season on Saturday, Sept. 10. Both teams squared off with BW Gottschee in home matches. Justin Rennicks served as captain for the Under-18s, while Connor Haskell captained the Under-16s. The Under-14s and Under-13s played Empire United in scrimmage matches, with both teams set to begin the USSDA portion of their respective schedules this coming weekend.


All four Academy teams will be in action this weekend, when each of the four age groups will travel to Portland, Conn. to take on Oakwood Soccer Club.


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Defender/midfielder Calvin Aroh ’99 (Glastonbury, Conn.), forward Justin Rennicks ’99 (South Hamilton, Mass.), and midfielder Alex Shterenberg ’99 (Westwood, Mass.) recorded their first goals of the Academy season, leading the Under-18s to a 3-2 victory over BW Gottschee’s Under-18s.
  • Five Under-16 players assisted in the Under-18s’ 3-2 win over BW Gottschee. Forward Tim Ennin ’00 (East Hartford, Conn.), defender/midfielder Tyler Freitas ’00 (North Attleborough, Mass.), midfielder Kevin Vang ’00 (Cranston R.I.), and defender/midfielder Andrew White ’00 (Boxborough, Mass.) started, while forward Gustavo Cassemiro ’00 (Framingham, Mass.) entered the match in the 65th minute as a substitute.
  • One Under-14 player, forward Michael Balleani ’02 (Woburn, Mass), played up with the Under-16s. Balleani entered the match as a substitute in the 52nd minute.
  • Goalkeeper Pat Quinn ’00 (Manchester, N.H.) stopped seven of nine shots for the Under-16s.
