New England Revolution Fall to Montreal Impact, 3-2

MONTREAL – The New England Revolution (4-6-7; 19 points) fell to the Montreal Impact (6-4-6; 24 points), 3-2, at Stade Saputo on Saturday evening.

Kei Kamara recorded his first two Revolution goals in MLS play, scoring in the 18th and 32nd minutes. However, Montreal’s Michael Salazar countered with a brace of his own in the second half and a converted penalty from Ignacio Piatti proved to be the difference in the match. The Revs have now scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight League matches.

The Revolution will be back in action at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, July 6, when the team returns home for a matchup with New York City FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. GAME NOTES

Revolution Finish Road Trip 3-2-0 Across All Competitions
-  With tonight’s loss, the Revolution are now 4-6-7 with 19 points on the season.
-  The Revolution played five consecutive road contests, including U.S. Open Cup matches against the Carolina RailHawks, a 1-0 Fourth Round victory in extra time on June 15, and the New York Cosmos, a 3-2 Round of 16 win on June 29.
-  On the current road trip, the Revolution played their first two matches in Canada of 2016 and finished 1-1-0 in those contests. The Revolution previously defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 at BC Place on June 18. 

Kei Kamara Records First MLS Goals with Revolution, Climbs All-Time MLS Scoring Ranks
-  Forward Kei Kamara opened his Revolution account in MLS play, scoring twice in tonight’s match in the 18thand 32nd minutes. The brace gives Kamara seven goals on the season, the first five coming with Columbus Crew SC.
-  With his second goal of the match in the 32nd minute, forward Kei Kamara improved his MLS career total to 81 goals. The Sierra Leone native now ranks 14th in career goals in MLS history, surpassing Brian McBride and Josh Wolff on the list.
-  Kamara’s first goal gave him 80 for his career, making him the 16th player in MLS history to reach the 80-goal plateau for his career. He currently ranks second among all active MLS players in goals, trailing only San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski (116). 

Kamara’s Brace Marks First of 2016 for Revolution
-  Forward Kei Kamara became the first Revolution player to record a brace this season when he scored his second goal of the match in the 32nd minute of play. Kamara has now recorded 13 career braces, including eight since returning to MLS prior to the 2015 regular season.
-  Kamara’s brace is the first for the Revolution since Charlie Davies recorded two goals against Toronto FC on Aug. 1, 2015 in a 3-1 victory at Gillette Stadium.
-  The brace marks Kamara’s second of the 2016 campaign and his second this year against Montreal. He also scored twice against Montreal while with Columbus Crew SC on May 7, 2016. 

Rowe and Tierney Each Record an Assist
-  Defender Chris Tierney assisted Kamara’s second goal when his corner kick found the striker’s head to put the Revs up 2-0. Tierney now has two assists this season and his first since April 17 at Orlando City SC. 
-  Tierney’s helper gives him 34 career regular season assists, all of which have come with the Revolution. He is now tied with Shalrie Joseph for the third most assists in club history. With his next assist, Tierney will tie Joe-Max Moore for second in team annals in assists.
-  Midfielder Kelyn Rowe recorded an assist on Kamara’s first goal, his second assist of the season. Rowe now has 26 career assists, all of which have come with the Revolution, and is now tied with Jay Heaps for ninth on the club’s all-time assists list. 

Farrell Paces Revs in Touches and Tackles
-  Defender Andrew Farrell, making his fourth start at right back this season, led the club in touches for a third consecutive match. Farrell led the team with 66 touches in tonight’s match after he recorded a team-high 76 touches in last weekend’s loss to D.C. United.
-  Farrell also led all Revs in tackles, finishing with six. Forward Teal Bunbury and midfielders Scott CaldwellDaigo Kobayashi, and Kelyn Rowe each had three tackles.

Daigo Kobayashi Makes 100th Career MLS Appearance, Records Efficient Passing Performance
-  Midfielder Daigo Kobayashi made his 100th career MLS appearance, as well as his 70th career Revolution appearance, by starting tonight’s contest. 
-  Kobayashi was the lone Revs player to record a greater than 90.0 percent passing accuracy, completing 24-of-26 passes for a mark of 92.3 percent.
-  The performance marks the 15th time this season a Revolution player has finished a match completing at least 90 percent of his passes. Leading the Revolution in 90 percent passing performances are midfielders Scott Caldwell (six), Gershon Koffie (three), Lee Nguyen (two) Daigo Kobayashi (two), and defenders Je-Vaughn Watson (one) and London Woodberry (one).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

-  3rd minute (SAVE) – Revolution goalkeeper Brad Knighton gets a hand on a shot from an unmarked Dominic Oduro just outside the six-yard box. Ambroise Oyongo crossed the ball to Oduro, who was able to put a headed effort on target. The save was Knighton’s first of the match and kept the match scoreless. (WATCH HERE).

-  18h minute (GOAL) – Midfielder Kelyn Rowe dribbles into the attacking third and plays forward Kei Kamara through into the 18-yard box. Kamara finishes the shot on one touch, beating Evan Bush. (WATCH HERE).

-  33rd minute (GOAL) – Defender Chris Tierney whips in a cross from the corner flag to forward Kei Kamara who heads it past Evan Bush to extend the Revolution lead.
