FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Under-18 and Under-16 Academy teams were in action in New Jersey last weekend, facing Players Development Academy on Saturday and NJCSA on Sunday. The Revolution Under-14s were also on the road, traveling to Connecticut to face Beachside SC on Sunday. The U-18s went 1-1-0 on the weekend, falling 2-1 to PDA before rebounding to claim a 2-1 win over NJCSA while the U-16s claimed four points, beating PDA 3-2 and playing to a 2-2 draw with NJCSA a day later. The U-14s won their third straight game with a 4-2 victory over Beachside SC in their only game of the week.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s opened up the weekend with a 2-1 loss to Players Development Academy on Saturday. Following a scoreless first half, the Revs fell behind in the 56th minute when Athanaios Scheidt scored for the home side. Chaz Burnett doubled the host’s lead 15 minutes later, making the score 2-0.

The U-18s pulled a goal back in the 85th minute, when Izaiah Jennings (Barrington, R.I.) was brought down in the area and Isaac Angking (Providence, R.I.) stepped up to convert the penalty kick and reduce the deficit, but PDA held on to claim the 2-1 victory.

The Under-18s bounced back from Saturday’s defeat with a 2-1 victory over NJCSA on Sunday. The Revolution went ahead in the 11th minute when neat build-up play through the midfield ended with the ball at the feet of Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) on the right side of the field, and the winger took on his man and pulled the ball back for Bryant Nardizzi (Framingham, Mass.) who fired into the back of the net to put the Revs 1-0 up.

Nardizzi doubled the U-18s’ lead early in the second half when a long ball over the NJCSA defense caused confusion and a defender played the ball directly into the path of Nardizzi with the goalkeeper out of position. The Revolution forward calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net for his third goal of the season, making the score 2-0.

NJCSA pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute through Cooper Tubiana but the Revs held on to the 2-1 victory with goalkeeper Eddie Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) making three saves to help his side claim the full three points.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s opened up their weekend with a 3-2 victory against Players Development Academy on Saturday. The Revs took the lead in the 18th minute, when Gustavo Cassemiro (Framingham, Mass.) received the ball in the attacking third, dribbled at a defender and played in strike partner Gabriel Meireles (Everett, Mass.) who finished into the corner, making the score 1-0.

The lead would only hold for four minutes before PDA equalized through John Murphy, but Cassemiro ensured the U-16s went in to the halftime break in front. The forward received a pass from Meireles in the midfield and dribbled at the PDA backline before cutting inside on his right foot and firing a powerful shot into the top corner to put the Revs 2-1 up in first-half stoppage time.

The Revolution extended their lead four minutes after the break with Meireles again playing a pivotal role. He dribbled down the right wing, beat his man and crossed for Andrew White (Boxborough, Mass.) to head in his first goal as a member of the Revolution Academy. The Under-16s pushed their unbeaten start to the season to nine games with a comeback 2-2 draw against NJCSA on Sunday in New Jersey. The Revs found themselves two goals down just two minutes into the second half after Santiago Martinez gave the home side a 1-0 halftime lead and Alexander Mieles made it 2-0 shortly after the interval. However, the U-16s responded quickly and cut the deficit to 2-1 just four minutes after Mieles’ goal. Following a corner kick, Gustavo Cassemiro picked up the loose ball in the area and clipped a finish into the top corner, reducing the deficit to 2-1 with his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Revs pulled level in the 60th minute when Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) scored his first goal of the 2015-16 season. After the NJCSA defense was only able to half clear a ball inside their area, Vang beat his man and slammed a powerful drive into the back of the net to make the score 2-2. The U-16s pushed hard for a winning goal in the final 20 minutes of the game, taking a total of 12 shots in the game, but were unable to find a winner as the two sides split the points.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s earned their third straight win with a 4-2 victory over Beachside SC on Sunday. The two sides traded goals early on, with Christopher Alwang giving Beachside the lead in the fourth minute, only for Bryce Visnick (Beverly, Mass.) to equalize for the Revs four minutes later when the forward finished a one-on-one with the goalkeeper after being played through by captain Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.).

Beachside pulled in front again just two minutes later through Elias Pardo, but the Revs again responded quickly. In the 18th minute, Samuel Deossa (Watertown, Mass.) whipped in a cross that found Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) at the back post, and Blanco took a touch before volleying in for his team-leading sixth goal of the season and fifth in the last three games, making the score 2-2.

The Revs went ahead for good in the 50th minute when a corner kick from Burns found the head of Connor Bagdon (Sunderland, Mass.), who headed in his second goal of the season to put the Revs up 3-2. The U-14s added a fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining when substitute Michael Balleani (Woburn, Mass.) found space out wide and whipped in a cross that Elio Firmino (Somerville, Mass.) tapped in for his second goal in as many games, making the final score 4-2.
