FINAL: Impact 1, Revolution 0

Scott Caldwell vs. Montreal Impact

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution saw their winless streak extend to four games with a 1-0 loss to the Montreal Impact on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium in the Revs’ regular-season home finale. In front of a Revolution record crowd of 42,947, the Revolution lost for just the second time at home all season after Montreal captain Ignacio Piatti scored the game’s only goal in the 55th minute.

New England and Montreal traded blows in an even first half, with Johan Venegas and Didier Drogba each going close for the Impact while Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen also saw chances go begging for the Revs. Jermaine Jones appeared to give New England the lead in the 10th minute after volleying Chris Tierney’s free kick into the net, but the goal was called back for offside.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Revolution fell behind when Piatti picked up the ball in the midfield and dribbled at the New England backline. He then hit a curling strike from 25 yards that looped over Bobby Shuttleworth and into the Revolution goal, giving the Impact a 1-0 lead.

The Revs almost pulled a goal back just two minutes later, but Nguyen’s low effort from the edge of the area was tipped around the post by Evan Bush. Montreal would then have several chances to add to their lead, but Calum Mallace and Patrice Bernier each saw efforts fly off target while Ambroise Oyongo had a shot saved by Shuttleworth, who finished the game with four saves. New England continued to throw numbers forward in search of an equalizer, but it was not to be as the Impact held on for the 1-0 victory and clinched a berth in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs.
