COACH - Jay Heaps

Q. A big three points on the road, your thoughts on this performance?

A. That is what I want to focus on, it wasn’t our best game by any stretch but we really worked hard, the guys fought like heck I was really proud of the way Scotty and Jermain played together, the way Farrell and Jose played together and our entire back line. It was a team effort tonight and it wasn’t our prettiest but I was really proud of them.

Q. How important is it to be efficient tonight, with four shots on target and three goals, having that efficiency on the road?

A. We didn’t impose our will as much as we would have liked, the goals came at strange times and I thought we had to adapt well as they did a good job of playing a different system. I thought once we figured that out I thought we were ok, they were definitely on the front foot but we were able to score a couple on the counter, they were mindful goals in terms of getting in behind them and breaking the back line. I thought we started to get better after we took the barrage after the first fifteen of the second half, our possession got better, were able to do more in their half and more chances.

Q. What was the message at half time being up 2-0 and having to weather the storm a bit?

A. We as a staff talked about changing a little where our pressure started, get in some more blocks playing a bit more of a 4-4-2 shape with some little details. Once we did that I felt we were very good and obviously they were putting balls in the box and our centre backs were great in the air.

PLAYER - #2 Andrew Farrell

Q. A huge three points on the road your thoughts on the game and going home with three points?

A. I think it was good for us to get a good result against a good team away from home. They’re a really good team, a great front six and solid at the back. We were on the back foot a bit to start the game, they hit the post a couple times then we hit them on the counter a couple times where we got most of our success. We were defensively sound all game and got goals from the guys up top, all in all a great result.

Q. What was the mindset of the defense, you were faced with wave after wave of attack so what was your defensive mindset?

A. It’s what we have been doing the past month and a half, for us to be a good team we have to get back into our shape and defend as a team. The game is 90 minutes it isn’t won in the first 15, we need to keep our attackers and our team in the game and put a little more pressure on the home team to get a result. We did that today and caught them on the counter a couple times and we were solid defensively, everyone was great tonight.

Q. A big three points, your thoughts on the performance and getting three points?

A. It’s a big three points that shows that all of our hard work that we are putting in is paying off.

Q. Your coach talked about the fight tonight, how important is that at this time of the year?

A. We were all fighting tonight, you can see that Toronto is a talented team but the way we were all working hard and making sure we keep our feet on the ground and trying to win the ball. It isn’t always going to be the greatest game but if we work hard we know we can get the three points.

Greg Vanney

What happened today?

My honest opinion was that I thought it was one of the best performances that we’ve had all year.  But sometimes the ball doesn’t go in the back of the net.  We had 21 chances, we missed the target too much considering where we got the chances from.  We missed the target nine times, we hit people seven times, so they blocked seven shots and we’re not talking shots from distance, we’re talking shots from 18 yards and in are the vast majority of these.  With that we were not able to not put it in the back of the net on the one side, and on the other side, the joke I heard was that they had more goals then they had shots on goal today.  On the first goal, just a couple errors, Damien (Perquis) is trying to recover and puts it in the back of the net.  The second one we have plenty of numbers around the play to deal with the play and we get a little bit lackadaisical and the ball gets across the top of the box and one touch to the back of the net.  It was a good finish but they had plenty of numbers around the area to deal with the play.  They had one and a half to two shots and they had two goals at that point of the game and that’s the first half.  We completely outplayed in the first half and we were down two goals.

Would it be fair to say your team beat itself tonight?

Yes, it’s fair.  I mean, at the end of the day, we scored our own goal, then we gave away one at the top of the box, that counts for two of them.  On the other side we missed a lot of chances that I would fancy us putting away on other days.  We dominated in every statistical category there was in this game except for the scoreboard which is the one that counts.  So yes, I would say that is fair.

Jozy Altidore

Is it frustrating to outwork the other team in every statistical category but not get the three points?

Of course you’re a little bit disappointed but you take away from today’s performance, I thought it was one of our best ones.  Obviously we didn't win the game but in terms of forcing teh game at home, our energy and commitment, I thought it was good.  We just kicked ourselves in the foot a couple times, two big mistakes for us that cost us the points but I thought the response was great in the second half, and I thought we created and we were dangers.  We have to take the positives away from today.

Thoughts on the team's formation?

I thought it was good, we tried something new and it worked, actually not new, the boys tried it in Seattle and felt comfortable with it, we tried it again today and I thought it was great.  We all found ways to be dangerous which was good.  Like I said, we were dangerous, we created chances but unfortunately on the other end we coughed up some mistakes and a good team like that made us pay.

Do points become more crucial down the line?

It’s an important time now.  We have no time to feel sorry for ourselves, we pick up now and have another big game in New York City.  We have to try to take maximum points there and then we return home against Colorado which is another opportunity to get three points.

Sebastian Giovinco

Thoughts on today’s game...

The team played very well today, the only missing thing was the result.  This is a learning experience and we just need to keep doing whatever we did well and try to improve upon our mistakes.

Was it frustrating to miss the Italian National team games due to you injury?

Well of course that was not good news but that is soccer and sometimes you get injured.  I have been playing consecutively for a year so that is something that can happen.  The most important thing is that I’m feeling well and that I’ve recovered from the injury.
