Revolution Headlines: July 20

Andrew Farrell vs. NYCFC

It’s Monday (I know, I feel your pain) but I think we can all agree this Monday is better than others, because the Revs picked up three points on Saturday night against NYCFC.

Charlie Davies talked to mlssoccer.com following the 1-0 win over NYCFC and told them, “It was ugly at times, but we all stuck with it.” The Revs found the back of the net in the 12th minute with a rocket from Lee Nguyen. That would be the only goal of the game as the Revolution held on for the win.

Saturday night’s crowd was the largest of the season with over 28,000 fans in attendance to watch the Revolution break their winless streak. Diego Fagundez told Sports Journal, “We definitely have to thank the fans. They came out after us not doing so well, but the stadium was kind of full, the passion was there, and we just wanted to give them the three points.” Hear everything Diego had to say here.

Sports Journal also highlighted the performance of goalkeeper Brad Knighton. Knighton’s start Saturday night was just his second of the season, as regular starter Bobby Shuttleworth was sidelined with a concussion he got earlier in the week during training. Get the full story here.

Immediately after the win Coach Jay Heaps went on Revolution Postgame Live with Dalen Cuff & Khano Smith. Dalen inquired into what was different about how the Revs came out and Heaps told him they “came out with that right mindset.

In addition to picking up the “W” on Saturday night, the Revs also got another piece of good news: Chris Tierney was named to the 2015 MLS All-Star Gameday Roster. CSNNE.com goes into detail on the subject including the fact that this is the Revs first player to be selected for the All-Star roster since Shalrie Joseph back in 2011. The All-Star team will face Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on July 29 at 9 p.m. in Commerce City, Colorado. Watch Tierney’s reaction to the news on revolutionsoccer.net right here.

There was another match Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, this one between the Special Olympians from both the Revolution and NYCFC’s teams. The game was the final event from the week, which included the “Bowl For a Goal” event put on by the Revolution Charitable Foundation to raise money for the Massachusetts Special Olympics. Read nesoccertoday.com's take on these events here.

That’s all for today, soldier through your Monday!
