Kelyn Rowe named MLS Player of the Week

DL - Kelyn Rowe Player of the Week

NEW YORK (Tuesday, March 31, 2015) – New England Revolution midfielder Kelyn Rowe was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the fourth week of the 2015 MLS season.

With New England hosting its second home game on Saturday afternoon, Rowe played a starring role in the Revs’ first victory of the season, notching both goals in the club’s 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. The two tallies marked Rowe’s second career multiple-goal game and were the first goals scored by the Revs this season.

Rowe got on the score sheet in the 21st minute when midfielder Lee Nguyen received the ball in the Earthquakes’ half and found Rowe at the top of the box. Rowe’s right-footed shot deflected off of San Jose defender Shaun Francis and swerved past goalkeeper David Bingham, breaking a New England scoreless streak of 346 minutes in league play.

Rowe found what would end up being the game-winner 16 minutes later. The play started with a Chris Tierney free kick from the left side that a diving Darrius Barnes headed to the near post. Rowe was there to provide the finish, slotting home a close range shot to put the Revs up 2-0 in the 37th minute.

The New England Revolution return to action this Saturday on the road against the Colorado Rapids at 7:00 p.m. ET at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (MLS LIVE).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
