Revolution Academy Teams Recap: September 15

Zach Herivaux vs. New York Red Bulls - Youth Academy

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 teams were in action for the first time in the 2014-15 season this past weekend, going 2-1-0 on the day against Albertson SC on Sunday, September 14, at Milton High School in Milton, Mass. The U18s fell to a 4-3 defeat, while the U16s and U14s posted big shutout results, winning 4-0 and 8-0, respectively.

"All three teams were excited to get the games started,” Bryan Scales, Revolution director of youth development, said. “There were a number of very strong performances for each team as we continue to work hard on improving from week to week, month to month."

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s began the season with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Albertson SC on Sunday. Albertson went ahead after 25 minutes through Kobie Fraser, before Derek Blanchette (Scituate, R.I.) played in Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) for a goal from close range in the 32nd minute. The Revs fell behind before halftime, as Carlos Martinez put Albertson back in front in the 37th minute. The visitors extended their lead in the 61st minute through Kevin Arriola but Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) pulled a goal back for the Revs three minutes later, heading in Eddie Venta-Yepes’ (Lowell, Mass.) free kick delivery. David Manzanares gave Albertson another two-goal lead in the 88th minute before the Revs pulled a goal back in stoppage time when Bryant Nardizzi (Framingham, Mass.) turned on the top of the box and fired past the goalkeeper. U18s goalkeeper Bill Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) made five saves in the defeat, while Nardizzi, TJ Soehn (Franklin, Mass.), Isaque Couto (Marlborough, Mass.) and Ted Hilger (Hopkinton, Mass.) all made their Revolution debuts.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s produced a solid performance to top Albertson, 4-0, on Sunday. Isaiah Jennings (Barrington, R.I.), with two goals and one assist, factored in three of the U16s’ four goals. Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) caused havoc in the Albertson penalty area allowing Jennings to pounce on the ball for a goal in the eighth minute. The Revs doubled their lead in the 25th minute, as Jennings recorded his assist when Isaac Angking (Providence, R.I.) rounded the goalkeeper and scored. Jones recorded his second assist of the game when he found Andrew Barrowman (Marshfield, Mass.) inside the area in the 52nd minute and Barrowman’s deflected shot looped over the goalkeeper. Jennings rounded off the scoring in the 63rd minute, taking the ball past the ‘keeper and scoring after Angking had played him through. Revolution goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) made two saves in the shutout win, while Jennings and Barrowman both made their Revolution debuts.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s posted a big win in their season-opener, beating Albertson, 8-0, on Sunday, with seven different players getting on the score sheet. Timothy Ennin (East Hartford, Conn.) opened the scoring in the 12th minute, getting on the end of a cross from Gustavo Cassemiro (Framingham, Mass.). Ennin returned the favor seven minutes later as he beat his man and connected with Cassemiro who scored from close range. The Revs scored their third goal in the 23rd minute, as Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and found space low to score. The U14s made it 4-0 before halftime, when Laz Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.) was on hand to tap in Paulo Da Silva’s (Framingham, Mass.) cross at the far post. Jonathan Ferreira (Ashland, Mass.) hammered in a left-footed shot from 30 yards, and later had a breakaway opportunity saved before Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) was on hand to finish the rebound. Ferreira scored his second of the game when he won a 50-50 duel in the area before prodding the ball low past the ‘keeper. The Revs scored their eighth goal when Connor Haskell (Medfield, Mass.) played a one-two with Ferreira and finished from inside the area. Of the 18 players who saw time, 13 made their Revolution debuts in the win.

The Revolution’s Under-18 and Under-16 teams are back in action next weekend, as they travel to take on Continental FC DELCO at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa., on Saturday, September 20. The Under-14 team is next in action on September 28, when they host Everton FC Westchester at Milton High School in Milton, Mass.
