U14s vs. Match Fit - Youth teams

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were in action last weekend, as the Under-18s and Under-16s faced Albertson SC at Gillette Stadium, while the Under-14s played away to Met Oval at Metropolitan Oval.

The U18s recorded a 2-1 victory over Albertson, while the U16s fell to the same score on Sunday, April 13. The U14s won 5-1 against Met Oval on Saturday.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s won a physical match at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, coming from behind to knock off Albertson SC, 2-1. Will Botty pounced on a defensive mistake in the 17thminute to put Albertson ahead, before the Albertson goalkeeper saved a Revs penalty attempt by Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) before halftime. The U18s came back in the second half and equalized in the 58th minute through Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.), who tapped in Apajee’s pass. The comeback was completed with seven minutes left in the game, as Apajee played a quick one-two with Kunateh before converting Kunateh’s pass back  just inside the area. The win was the U18s fifth in a row in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy where they now hold a 9-5-2 (29 pts.) record. The U18s remain in fourth place with 1.81 points per game.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s jumped out to a one-goal lead against Albertson just after the halftime break, despite being forced to play down a man for the final 55 minutes after Ben Waithe(Plymouth, Mass.) was ejected in the 25th minute. Despite missing a penalty kick in the first half, the Revs went ahead in the 50th minute after Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass.) knocked down a long throw for Dylan Mott (Andover, Mass.) to finish. The lead lasted only seven minutes as Albertson’s Stephen Ellas tied the game up from the penalty spot, before scoring the game-winner in the 62nd minute. The loss pushed the U16s to 6-8-3 (21 pts.) on the season and they remain in seventh place in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 1.24 points per game.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s travelled to Maspeth, N.Y., to face Met Oval on Saturday, and returned home with a 5-1 victory. Andrew Talcott (Westwood, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 11thminute, finishing a first-time attempt from Connor Haskell’s (Medfield, Mass.) delivery. The U14s doubled the lead four minutes later, as Amos Shapiro-Thompson (Worthington, Mass.) created a turnover, recovered possesssion, beat his man, and finished past the Met Oval goalkeeper. Shapiro-Thompson added another in the 26th minute, picking up Laz Dorogi’s (West Boylston, Mass.) pass before taking it past his man and scoring. Met Oval pulled back a goal in the 34th minute through Misha Muller, but the Revs pulled away in the second half. Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, Conn.) headed in Joe Brito’s (Bolton, Conn.) corner kick in the 56th minute before Christian Schifano (Sudbury, Mass.) received Haskell’s pass, rounded the goalkeeper and scored in the 80th minute to complete the scoring. The U14s are now 11-2-2 for the season.
