FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will enter the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup next Tuesday, May 28, when the team will travel to face the Rochester Rhinos at Sahlen’s Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:35 p.m. in Rochester. The Rhinos, who play in the USL PRO league, are one of the Revs’ affiliate clubs.

Rochester advanced to the third round following last night’s 1-0 victory against GPS Portland Phoenix (USL PDL) in Rochester during a match that was marred by a storm delay.

The Revs, who are entering the tournament’s bracket in the third round with the rest of the U.S.-based Major League Soccer teams, are 11-10-4 all-time in the Open Cup. New England won the 2007 U.S. Open Cup title.

Should the Revs advance past the Rhinos and advance to the fourth round, U.S. Soccer today announced that New England will host the winner of the third-round match between the New York Red Bulls and Reading United AC (USL PDL) at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., on Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The opponent would be determined during the New York-Reading match on Wednesday, May 29, in Harrison, N.J.

Created in 1914, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States and is celebrating its centennial this year. The single-elimination tournament, which is similar to the prestigious English FA Cup, is open to all amateur and professional teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer).
