FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution continues to prepare for the 2013 campaign, which gets underway in 10 days as the team reports for training camp and entrance physicals on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Gillette Stadium.


Before then, the Revolution’s technical staff will attend the 2013 MLS Combine, which will be conducted Jan. 11-15 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Following the MLS Combine, the Revolution will make four selections – including the fourth overall pick – in next week’s 2013 SuperDraft, held on Thursday, Jan. 17, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Revs, MLS to participate in today’s “Soccer Night in Newtown”

Seven Revolution players will join more than 30 MLS and U.S. National Team stars later today, Jan. 7, for a special “Soccer Night in Newtown,” to provide an evening of fun for Newtown residents and members of the Newtown Youth Soccer Club following the tragedy on Dec. 14 … Kevin Alston, Darrius Barnes, Ryan Guy, Matt Reis, Clyde Simms, Chris Tierney and Bobby Shuttleworth will participate in small-sided games, autograph sessions and an afternoon of soccer … more information on today’s event can be found HERE.


This Way In …

Ahead of the 2013 season, the Revolution have already added four players – including a league-high three international signings – to their roster … with French midfielder Kalifa Cisse, Welsh midfielder Andy Dorman and Portuguese defender Jose Goncalves – as well as Homegrown midfielder Scott Caldwell (Braintree, Mass.) – additionally, the Revs had brought in more talent from outside the league than any other team in MLS to date … as of today, the Revs’ roster stands at 22 players with seven of the team’s international roster spots used.


Number Updates

Four new Revolution signings have been issued numbers, while two members of the 2012 squad have changed numbers … Jose Goncalves will wear number 23, Scott Caldwell is set to don number 6, while Kalifa Cisse is number 4 … Andy Dorman, who wore number 25 while with the Revs from 2004 to 2007, will now wear number 12 in his second go-round with the club … Bobby Shuttleworth has changed from number 34 to number 22 and center back Stephen McCarthy is now number 15 after wearing number 26 in his first two seasons in New England.


Revs sign Jose Goncalves

Last Thursday, the Revs signed Portuguese central defender Jose Goncalves (pronounced JOE-see gon-CAHL-ves) on loan with a purchase option from Switzerland’s FC Sion … Goncalves will officially be added to the Revolution’s roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and his U.S. P-1 Visa, and he will occupy an international roster spot … Goncalves, 27, most recently played for Swiss Super League club FC Sion and has a total of nine years of professional experience in Europe.


Home is Where the Caldwell Is

Just before the holiday break, the Revs also signed Braintree, Mass., product Scott Caldwell as a Homegrown player on Dec. 21 … the two-time All-American has played the last four seasons at collegiate powerhouse Akron while training with the Revolution’s first team each summer … Caldwell is the team’s second Homegrown player, joining Diego Fagundez, who was the team’s first-ever Homegrown signing in 2010.


2013 Preseason plans

The Revolution will open its 2013 training camp on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Gillette Stadium … the team’s five-and-a-half week camp will include two extended trips to Arizona, and six games against MLS teams … a complete schedule can be found HERE.


Desert Diamond Cup tickets on sale

Tickets for the 2013 FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup are now on sale … for the second year in a row, the Revs will participate in the February tournament to wrap up their preseason training … the New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake – both teams competed in the 2012 tournament – and Seattle Sounders FC will also join the Revs in Tucson for the tournament … the round-robin group games will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 13, Saturday, Feb. 16 and Wednesday, Feb. 20, before the championship (which will be televised by NBC Sports Network) and consolation games are played on Saturday, Feb. 23 … tickets are available for purchase by clicking HERE.


2013 Season Tickets

2013 season tickets are now on sale … a special video including a list of pricing, all the benefits of becoming a season-ticket holder, and more, can be found HERE … the Revs finished the 2012 home schedule on a five-game unbeaten streak (2-0-3) and averaged 24,949 fans in its last home two games of the season.


ON THE RADAR
2013 MLS SuperDraft

Thursday, Jan. 17 (Indianapolis, Ind.)


The Revolution currently hold four selections in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, including the fourth overall choice in the first round … the Revs also hold three second-round picks: their own, one from D.C. United (from a Feb. 18, 2011 trade for the rights to Fred) and one from Chivas USA (from an Aug. 1 trade for Shalrie Joseph) … MLS will release the final draft order before the draft.


2013 Preseason Opens

Thursday, Jan. 17 (Gillette Stadium)


The Revs will open preseason camp with entrance physicals and testing at Gillette Stadium.


YOUTH UPDATE
Season to-date records

Amid their winter hiatus, the Under-18s are 8-2-0 (24 pts.) overall and rank second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference based on points per game. The Under-16s hold a 4-2-4 record (16 pts.) and are currently in fourth place in the Division. The Under-14s enter the break at 4-2-0 (12 pts.), which is good for sixth in U.S. Club Soccer’s Northeast Pre-Academy League.


Spring schedule

All three of the Revolution’s youth teams will resume play on Saturday, March 2, at Gillette Stadium. The U18s and U16s will take on FC Westchester, while the U14s are scheduled to play Oakwood SC. Regular training will begin the week of January 14, 2013.
