FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution forward Jerry Bengtson has been called up to the Honduras national team for the team’s upcoming CONCACAF Hexagonal Round match against the United States on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The Hexagonal Round is CONCACAF's final, six-team stage of regional qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Bengtson has earned 31 caps with Honduras, scoring 14 goals, since he entered the national team picture in 2010. His last appearance came on Sunday, Jan. 27, when he started in the championship match of 2013 Copa Centroamericana in a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica. Bengtson earned four caps during the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying tournament and scored a 75th-minute goal in the 1-1 draw against El Salvador on Jan. 18.

Bengtson is one of five MLS players to represent Honduras in the first match of the Hexagonal Round. The 25-year old is scheduled to join the Revolution for the first time this preseason following the U.S. match, before the team departs for Tucson, Ariz.
