FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – With two players selected last Friday in Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Process, the Revs have continued to prepare for the 2013 season.


After the holidays, the Revolution’s technical staff will attend the 2013 MLS Combine, which will be conducted Jan. 11-15 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Revs select two in Stage 2 of Re-Entry Process

The Revs selected two veteran MLS players in last Friday’s Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Process: LA Galaxy forward Chad Barrett in the first round (fourth overall pick) and Colorado Rapids defender Hunter Freeman in the second round (23rd overall selection) … per MLS rules, the league has seven days from Friday to make contract offers to the players … more insight from Revs general manager Michael Burns is availableHERE, while quotes from head coach Jay Heaps can be found HERE.


The Barrett Breakdown

After passing in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Process on Dec. 7, the Revs used their first pick (fourth overall selection) in the first round of Friday’s Stage 2 to select LA Galaxy forward Chad Barrett ... Barrett has seven seasons of MLS experience and has scored 42 goals and added 27 assists in 192 career appearances with Chicago (2005-08), Toronto (2008-2010) and LA (2011-12) … the 27-year old was most recently on loan from the Galaxy to Valerenga of Norway’s Tippeligaen where he made five appearances and recorded one assist through the end of the 2012 season.


The Freeman File

Hoping to add experience to the backline, the Revs used their second round pick (23rd overall selection) of Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Process to select defender Hunter Freeman from the Colorado Rapids … Freeman’s résumé includes seven MLS seasons, including 126 MLS appearances in 110 starts … he has scored two goals and added 11 assists, including a career-high five for the Rapids in 2012 … Freeman has made stops in Colorado (2005-06, 2012), New York (2007-08), Toronto (2008) and Houston (2011), and also played two seasons (2009-10) with IK Start of Norway’s Tippeligaen, the country’s top professional division.


Benny Feilhaber traded to Kansas City

Last Tuesday, the Revs traded Benny Feilhaber to Sporting Kansas City in exchange for allocation money and Sporting KC’s natural first-round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and its natural second-round pick in the 2015 SuperDraft … Feilhaber, 27, made 52 appearances since joining the Revolution in April 2011 through Major League Soccer’s Allocation process … with the Revs, Feilhaber made 46 starts, scoring five goals and adding nine assists, including four goals and seven assists in his 23-game 2011 campaign … analysis from Revs’ head coach Jay Heaps is available HERE.


2013 Preseason plans announced

The Revolution will open its 2013 training camp on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Gillette Stadium … the team’s five-and-a-half week camp will include two extended trips to Arizona, and six games against MLS teams … a complete schedule can be found HERE.


Desert Diamond Cup tickets on sale now

Tickets for the 2012 FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup are now on sale … for the second year in a row, the Revs will participate in the February tournament to wrap up their preseason training … the New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake – both teams competed in the 2012 tournament – and Seattle Sounders FC will also join the Revs in Tucson for the tournament … the round-robin group games will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 13, Saturday, Feb. 16 and Wednesday, Feb. 20, before the championship (which will be televised by NBC Sports Network) and consolation games are played on Saturday, Feb. 23 … tickets are available for purchase by clicking HERE.

2013 Season Tickets atop the wish list


2013 season tickets are now on sale … a special video including a list of pricing, all the benefits of becoming a season-ticket holder, and more, can be found HERE … the Revs finished the 2012 home schedule on a five-game unbeaten streak (2-0-3) and averaged 24,949 fans in its last home two games of the season.


ON THE RADAR
2013 MLS SuperDraft

Thursday, Jan. 17 (Indianapolis, Ind.)


The Revolution currently hold four selections in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, including the fourth overall choice in the first round … the Revs also hold three second-round picks: their own, one from D.C. United (from a Feb. 18, 2011 trade for the rights to Fred) and one from Chivas USA (from an Aug. 1 trade for Shalrie Joseph) … MLS will release the final draft order before the draft.


2013 Preseason Opens

Thursday, Jan. 17 (Gillette Stadium)


The Revs will open preseason camp with entrance physicals and testing at Gillette Stadium.


YOUTH UPDATE

Season to-date records


Entering their winter hiatus, the Under-18s are 8-2-0 (24 pts.) overall and rank second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference based on points per game. The Under-16s hold a 4-2-4 record (16 pts.) and are currently in fourth place in the Division. The Under-14s enter the break at 4-2-0 (12 pts.), which is good for sixth in U.S. Club Soccer’s Northeast Pre-Academy League.


Spring schedule


All three of the Revolution’s youth teams will resume play on Saturday, March 2, at Gillette Stadium. The U18s and U16s will take on FC Westchester, while the U14s are scheduled to play Oakwood SC. Regular training will begin the week of January 14, 2013.
