Youth Update: Met Oval

Youth update

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Sunday, Oct. 28, all three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were in action, hosting Met Oval at Regis College in Weston, Mass. The young Revs swept their Northeast Division opponents, going a combined 3-0-0 on the day.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s earned a 3-1 victory against Met Oval on Sunday. Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.) opened scoring for the Revs in the 20th minute, hitting the crossbar on his first attempt to chip the Met Oval goalkeeper before calming heading home the rebound. Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) was credited with the assist. Freddie Ferre(Waltham, Mass.) was brought down in the box on the other side of the break, earning a penalty kick which Ramiro Osorio (Hooksett, N.H.) converted in the 57th minute for a 2-0 lead. Osorio then scored his second goal in the 78th minute. After evading the Met Oval back line, the second-year Rev fired a low shot into the back of the net. Giuseppe Ilarda pulled one back in the 80th minute, but the Revs still led by two at the final whistle.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s shut out Met Oval, 6-0, highlighted by a four-goal, one-assist performance by Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.). The striker played 64 minutes before being replaced by new Rev Simon Fisher (Brookline, Mass.), scoring in the 18th, 33rd, 44th and 62nd minutes. Michael Faria (West Warwick, R.I.) and Justin Freitas (North Attleboro, Mass.) each added one goal and one assist, while Elijah Elmore (Brookline, Mass.) and Will Rasid (Wilbraham, Mass.) each added assists. Freitas scored a goal in the 60th minute, following up on one of Gissie’s shots. Faria further extended New England’s lead in the 76th minute, assisted by Rasid. Revolution goalkeeper Bruce Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) made five saves to preserve the shut out.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s improved their record to 3-1-0 during the weekend, topping Met Oval, 5-1. Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) gave the Revs the advantage in just the fourth minute of play, converting a set-up by Adama Kaba (Mattapan, Mass.). In the 20th minute, Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) slotted one home after Met Oval failed to clear the ball out of its six-yard box. Santiago Cardona (Winthrop, Mass.) then finished a cross from Matt Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) in the 27th minute, sending the Revs into halftime with a 3-0 lead. Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) scored New England’s fourth goal in the 50th minute, before earning the assist on Nick Woodruff’s (Attleboro, Mass.) 65th-minute strike. Met Oval netted a consolation goal in the 73rd minute, making the final score 5-1.
