Team Notes vs. New York

• The Revs lead the all-time, regular-season series with the New York Red Bulls (formerly the New York/New Jersey MetroStars), 26-19-12 … the Revs have had success at home against New York, holding a 18-4-5 mark in Foxborough – including a 11-1-4 record at Gillette Stadium
• New England enters Saturday’s match riding a 15-game, regular-season undefeated streak (11-0-4) at Gillette Stadium against New York, dating back 2002
• Sunday’s game will mark the 58th regular-season meeting and 66th all-time between the Revolution and Red Bulls in MLS regular-season, postseason and tournament action combined, which is tied for the most meetings against any opponent in Revs history … the Revs have also played D.C. United 66 total times

• Jerry Bengtson scored his first career goal in his MLS debut against New York when the two teams last met on July 8, 2012
• Lee Nguyen has one goal in two appearances against New York … Nguyen scored the game-winner on July 8, 2012, in Foxborough
• Two other current players –Sainey Nyassi and Clyde Simms – have also scored single goals against New York
• Chris Tierney leads all current Revolution players with two assists in seven appearances – including the game-winning assist on July 8, 2012
• Matt Reis is the only other Revs player to record an assist against New York
• After Matt Reis’ 23 appearances and Clyde Simms 20 appearances, no other player has made more than nine appearances against New York
• Matt Reis is 10-4-7 in his Revolution career against the Red Bulls, posting a 1.27 goals against average and six shutouts

Hispanic Heritage Night and College Night on Saturday

The Revs welcome New York to Gillette Stadium on Saturday – a venue that has been unkind to the New York club since its opening in 2002 … New England enters Saturday’s match riding a 15-game, regular-season undefeated streak (11-0-4) at Gillette Stadium against New York, dating back to 2002.

I-95 Rivals Keep Things Close

New York and New England have made a habit of keeping contests close in the last half-dozen meetings … four of the last six games have been one-goal games or draws… in those four games, the Revs are 1-2-1 … the largest margin of victory in that span is the Red Bulls’ 2-0 victory on Oct. 21, 2010 and New England’s 2-0 win on July 8, 2012.

One-Goal Games More Than A Dime a Dozen

Saturday’s 2-1 loss at D.C. United marked the Revs 16th one-goal game this season, tied with Real Salt Lake for the most in MLS … in those games, the Revs are 2-14-0 and the team has dropped its last nine one-goal contests dating back to May 26 at United … only one of the team’s losses – a 3-0 loss at Kansas City on March 17 – was by more than one goal this season.

Goal Delivery in 30 Minutes or Less

The Revs found an early goal on Saturday at D.C. as Kelyn Rowe struck in the 29th minute … the team has scored a league-leading 19 goals in the first 30 minutes of action this season … with Rowe’s goal in that window, the Revs have now scored more than half of their goals (19-of-36 total goals) this season within the first half-hour of play.

No Shortage of Shots

Despite only scoring one goal at United on Saturday, the Revs unleashed a club-record 28 shots at D.C. … the previous club record was 26, which the team hit four different times … the team’s previous high this season was 20, set on Sept. 5 against Columbus … with 402 total shots this year, the Revs are rank third in MLS behind Kansas City (470), while New England’s 161 shots on goal lead the league.

Rowe Returns to Scoring Ways

Rookie Kelyn Rowe scored the Revs’ lone goal at D.C. on Saturday, opening the scoring in the 29th minute … it was Rowe’s third goal of the season and first since June 2 against Chicago in Foxborough … with three goals in 25 appearances, the UCLA-product is third in scoring on the club behind team-leader Saer Sene (11 goals) and Lee Nguyen (five goals).

Diego’s Helping Out

Diego Fagundez recorded his second assist of the season on Saturday when he fed Kelyn Rowe for the Revs’ lone goal ... Fagundez’s assist on Rowe’s goal was his third career assist and second assist in as many games … the 17-year old also recorded an assist on Dimity Imbongo’s goal in the team’s last outing, a 2-0 win over Columbus on Sept. 5.

Toja’s Return to MLS Action

Juan Toja made his Revolution debut when he checked into Saturday’s game at D.C. in the 73rd minute … it was Toja’s first MLS appearance since July 19, 2008 when he was with FC Dallas … Toja arrived in New England on Sept. 9  and  trained four times with the Revs last week ahead of his first Revolution action.

Reis Moves Up the League Charts Twice

On Saturday in D.C., Matt Reis moved in to fourth place on the MLS career (goalkeeper) minutes played chart … Reis now has 24,941 career minutes played, passing Zach Thornton who had 24,935 … Reis also moved into a fourth-place tie with Zach Thornton on the MLS career (goalkeepers) starts list with 276 starts.

Reserves Round out the Season

The Revolution Reserves (2-4-3, 9 pts.) play their final match of the season on Saturday … the team takes on the New York Reserves (1-5-2, 5 pts.), immediately following the first-team game at Gillette Stadium … Fernando Cardenas scored the Revs’ lone goal in the 59th minute in the Revs’ last reserve match – a 2-1 loss to Toronto FC on Sept. 7.

YOUTH UPDATE
Academy Teams Aiming for Oct. 13

The Revs’ Under-16 and Under-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy squads will officially open their 2012-13 seasons on Saturday, October 13 when the team travels to Albertson FC … the teams’ original season opener – hosting Oakwood this coming Saturday – was re-scheduled for later in November … this is the first season of the new U.S. Soccer-mandated 10-month season.

Under-14s to Join Development Academy in 2013-14

Earlier this month, U.S. Soccer announced that the Development Academy will add a U13/U14 division in the 2013-14 season … current Academy teams, as well as a select number of teams from outside the current Academy, will populate the U13/U14 roster when the league begins … this season, the Revs’ Under-14 squad will play in U.S. Club Soccer’s Northeast Pre-Academy League.
