FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution forward Saer Sene (pronounced sigh-AIR SEN) underwent reconstructive surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee earlier today. He is expected to return to full action in 6-8 months.
Head team physician Dr. Scott Martin performed the surgery at the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center in Foxborough. Sene, 25, suffered the injury on Wednesday, Aug. 29, in a match against Chivas USA at Gillette Stadium.
The French forward, who is a contender for Major League Soccer’s newcomer of the year award, leads the Revolution in scoring with 11 goals, including two in the game in which he suffered the injury. He also added three assists in 25 appearances. His 11 goals are the team’s highest by a single player since the 2007 season. Sene signed with the Revolution on February 13, 2012, from Bayern Munich’s reserve team.
