Reserves: Montreal 3, New England 1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Behind three different goal scorers, the Montreal Impact Reserves earned a 3-1 win over the New England Revolution Reserves on Monday morning at Gillette Stadium’s Lower Practice Field. Zackariah Massoudi, Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Andrew Wenger all scored for the visiting Impact, while Dimitry Imbongo scored for New England.

Despite an early Wenger chance in the sixth minute, the teams played a scoreless first 30 minutes. Montreal broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Montreal’s Massoudi, an Under-21 player, ripped a shot from the top of the area that was deflected. Revs goalkeeper Tim Murray recovered to get a fingertip on the ball, but it still found the back of the goal for a 1-0 Montreal lead.

The Impact doubled its lead in the 42nd minute through Ubiparipovic. Montreal’s build-up play came through Lamar Neagle on the left side and the midfielder slid a pass to Ubiparipovic at the top of the area. His shot clipped the far post and bounced into the goal, pushing Montreal’s lead to 2-0.

New England responded three minutes later. Flo Lechner played Imbongo through down the center of the field, and the forward powered past a pair of Impact defenders and slotted his shot past Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush to cut the lead to 2-1 going into halftime.

Montreal converted once more in the 61st minute when the number one overall selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Andrew Wenger, picked up the ball off a turnover in the midfield and shot low to the far post and past Murray, giving Montreal its final goal for the 3-1 win.

With the loss, the Revolution Reserves moved to 2-3-3 (9 pts.), while the Montreal Impact moved to 4-2-1 (13 pts.) on the season.

The Revolution Reserves next see action on Friday, Sept. 7, when they host the Toronto FC Reserves at 10 a.m. at Gillette Stadium. The Impact Reserves are next in action on Tuesday, August 21, when they host the New York Red Bulls Reserves at Stade Saputo at 11 a.m.
