WEEKLY _UPDATE_JUNE_4

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will have a bye week this weekend before its next match on June 16, while the Revolution reserves will play twice on the road in the coming week.


The Revolution reserves (0-1-1, 1 pt.) will travel to face the Montreal Impact reserves (2-1-1, 7 pts.) on Tuesday, June 5, at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, before taking on the Columbus Crew reserves (2-1-0, 6 pts.) on Sunday, June 10, at Crew Stadium.


TEAM NOTES
Bye-Week Break

After defeating Chicago, 2-0, on Saturday, the Revs enter a bye week with a 5-7-1 record and 16 points … following Saturday’s victory, the Revs sit in sixth place in the 10-team MLS Eastern Conference … the Revolution returns to action on June 16 when the club hosts the Columbus Crew at 7:30 p.m., at Gillette Stadium … this weekend is the team’s second of four bye weekends throughout the schedule … the Revs will have bye weekends again on Sept. 8 and Oct. 13, both FIFA competition weekends.


Reserves Double Down This Week

While the first team has a bye weekend, the Revolution reserves (0-1-1, 1 pt.) will see plenty of action this week with a pair of road games … the reserves will travel to face the Montreal Impact reserves (2-1-1, 7 pts.) on Tuesday, June 5, at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex before taking on the Columbus Crew reserves (2-1-0, 6 pts.) on Sunday, June 10, at Crew Stadium … the reserves are scheduled to play four matches in the next four weeks with additional matches on Sunday, June 17 against Columbus at home and Sunday, July 8 against New York at home.


Revs Equal 2011 Win Totals

With a win on Saturday against Chicago, the Revs earned their fifth win of the season in the 13th game this year … the team’s five wins matches the team’s entire 2011 win total after the club went 5-16-13 in the 34-game season … the victory also marked the club’s fourth home win in six tries … the team’s four home victories also matches the team’s 2011 home win total after going 4-7-6 at Gillette Stadium last year.


Feilhaber Makes it 10

With his goal on Saturday, Benny Feilhaber became the 10th Revolution player this season to score a goal for the club … he also became the fourth player returning from the 2011 Revolution squad to score a goal, joining Shalrie Joseph, A.J. Soares, and Chris Tierney (one each) … six of the first seven Revolution goal scorers - including Saer Sene (7) Blake Brettschneider (1), Fernando Cardenas (1), Jose Moreno (1), Lee Nguyen (2) and Kelyn Rowe (2) – were new to the team this year.


UCLA Ties that Score

Kelyn Rowe and Benny Feilhaber connected to score both of the Revolution’s goals on Saturday against Chicago … both players are products of the UCLA men’s soccer program, with Feilhaber playing for the Bruins in 2003 and 2004, and Rowe following his path in 2010 and 2011 … Rowe scored the team’s first goal, poking home a through ball from Feilhaber in the 69th minute after making a diagonal run off the right wing … Feilhaber then added to the Revs’ lead four minutes later when he played a one-two with Rowe and made a run similar to Rowe’s on goal for his first strike of the season … both players finished the match with one goal and one assist.


Reis Tacks on to Club Shutout Lead

Matt Reis recorded his second shutout of the 2012 season on Saturday night, pushing his career total to 66 shutouts … he has recorded a club record 57 shutouts with the Revolution … Reis sits in fifth place on the MLS career shutouts list, and is 10 back of fourth-place Zach Thornton (76).


Murray Out 6-8 Weeks

Revolution goalkeeper Tim Murray underwent a medial meniscectomy on his left knee on Thursday, May 31, and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks while rehabilitating the injury … head team physician Dr. Scott Martin performed the surgery at Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Mass. … Murray has yet to make a first-team or reserve appearance this year.


YOUTH UPDATE
Under-18s

The Under-18s went 0-1-1 during the weekend … the U18s suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Westchester in Purchase, N.Y., on Saturday, June 2, before earning a 1-1 draw against Albertson FC in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sunday, June 3 … the U18s are now 9-9-4 (31 pts.) overall … with their 3-2-1 (10 pts.) division record, sit fourth place in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference.


Under-16s

The Under-16s went 2-0-0 during the weekend … the U16s topped FC Westchester, 3-1, on Saturday in Purchase, N.Y., and shut out Albertson SC, 1-0, in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sunday … the U16s are now 14-6-2 (44 pts.) overall … with their 4-1-1 (13 pts.) division record, sit in third place in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference.


The youth teams will return to Gillette Stadium this weekend, facing Oakwood Soccer Club on Saturday, June 9, before taking on South Central Premier on Sunday, June 10.


2012-13 Tryouts Announced

The Revolution will hold tryouts for its newly-created Revolution Academy Under-14 team, as well as its existing Under-16 and Under-18 teams, at Gillette Stadium on Monday, July 2 … players born in the following years are eligible to try out: 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 … there is no fee to try out, but all prospective players must register for the tryout no later than Sunday, July 1 … players who have not already registered will not be allowed to tryout on July 2 … registration forms and information, as well as the July 2 tryout schedule, can be found online at revolutionsoccer.net/academy/2012-open-tryouts
