FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution will train four more days this week in Foxborough, Mass., before the team travels to Arizona for the second time this preseason, this time to compete in the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup with the LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake.


TEAM NOTES
Current training camp roster

An up-to-date preseason roster can be accessed at the team’s website HERE ...  this roster will be updated weekly roster so check the web site regularly for the most up-to-date version … click on the CLUB link at the top of the home page, and click the 2012 Preseason Roster (PDF) link in the drop-down menu … as of Monday, six non-rosteredplayers are in camp with the Revolution: forward Blake Brettschneider, defender Gabe Mercier, forward Alec Purdie, forward Michael Roach, forward Dawyne “Rick” Smith and defender Blake Wagner.


Revolution acquires French forward Saër Sène

On Monday, the Revolution acquired French forward Saër Sène on a free transfer from Germany’s Bayern Munich, where he has been a member of the team’s reserve squad since 2009 … Sène will be formally added to the team’s roster upon receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa and his International Transfer Certificate … Sène, 25, made 55 appearances with Bayern Munich II between 2009 and 2011 … in that time, he scored 19 goals and added three assists, including an 11-goal, two-assist effort during the 2009-10 season.


Revs to face Eagles again

With a three-week lull between outdoor training sessions and trips to Arizona, the Revs altered the team’s original training schedule with a pair of scrimmages against the Boston College men’s soccer team … in the clubs’ first meeting on Friday, Feb. 10, the Revs took a 3-0 win at Gillette Stadium behind a pair of goals from Kelyn Rowe and Michael Roach … the teams will meet again on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Gillette Stadium, allowing New England to get two more competitive matches on a full field before departing for Tucson.


Revolution will host Supporters Summit on Thursday

The New England Revolution will host its third-annual Supporters Summit at Gillette Stadium at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 16 … the event is exclusively for registered members of the team’s two recognized supporters groups – The Midnight Riders and The Rebellion – and is not open to the public … doors will open to the Putnam Club on the East side of Gillette Stadium at 6:30 p.m. … for more information about the team’s supporters groups, including how to join, click HERE.

SAVE THE DATE: Media Day – March 6, 2011

The Revolution will hold its annual Media Day at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at Gillette Stadium … every member of the Revolution roster and coaching staff will be on hand and available to media, following a press luncheon and press availability for President Brian Bilello, General Manager Michael Burns and head coach Jay Heaps … season credentials will be available for media to pick up at this time.


YOUTH TEAMS UPDATE
Revs to send U17 squad to South Africa for international tournament

The Revolution’s youth development program has accepted an invitation to feature an Under-17 squad in the 2012 Future Champions Gauteng Tournament, which will be held Monday, March 26 through Saturday, March 31, in Johannesburg, South Africa … the elite international competition features 12 youth clubs from five different continents … each team will play every other within its three-team group, plus one crossover game with a team from another group, followed by playoff and placing games … the Revs are the lone representative from North America … for more information, click HERE.


U.S. Soccer Development Academy mandates move to 10-month season

Beginning in the fall, all U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs will move to a 10-month schedule (September – June) … the move will eliminate most double-fixture weekends in the competition schedule, increase the amount of training time for the players and make the Development Academy schedule more consistent with the rest of the world … for more explanation and quotes about the change from Director of Youth Development and Under-16 head coach Bryan Scales and Revolution General Manager Michael Burns, click HERE.


Scales to lead session at U.S. Youth Soccer Workshop

Revolution Director of Youth Development and Under-16 head coach Bryan Scales will lead the U16s through a training session at the U.S. Youth Soccer Association Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 18 … held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, the Workshop features educational sessions by top coaches and player development professionals for those involved in youth soccer … Scales’ session will begin at 3 p.m., and will focus on sharp passing, quick decision-making and movement off the ball.


Youth teams on winter break

Outside of regular training, both the U18s and U16s have a break from competition until early March, when the Revs will resume their fourth season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy … both teams finished the 2011 portion of the season at the top of the Northeast Division of the East Conference: the U18s hold a 4-1-0 record (12 pts.), while the U16s are 3-2-0 (9 pts.) … kicking off a series of road matches, the youth teams will next play D.C. United at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md., on Saturday, March 10.
