Revs select four at 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution selected four players in today’s Supplemental Draft, which consisted of four rounds of 19 selections each. The Revs picked third in each round, selecting four players:


  • F Dawyne Smith, Bethel (Kingston, Jamaica; first round, third pick overall)
  • F/M Alec Purdie, Indiana (Elkhart, Ind.; second round, 22nd pick overall)
  • M Kevin Garcia, Villanova (Flushing, N.Y..; third round, 41st pick overall)
  • F Michael Roach, Saint Louis (St. Louis, Mo..; fourth round, 60th pick overall)


Smith, 23, scored 46 goals and added 39 assists in 77 games played during his four-year career at Bethel. Playing both as a forward and a midfielder, he helped the Wildcats reach the NAIA Division I playoffs all four years. Smith earned 2011 third-team All-America honors in 2011 after receiving Scholar All-America and honorable mention All-America honors in 2010.


Purdie, 23, scored 12 goals and added 10 assists in 63 games during his four seasons played at Indiana. After redshirting as a freshman in 2006, he became a key contributor for the Hoosiers. The Indiana native earned 2011 All-Big Ten honors and started each of the Wildcats’ 22 matches – scoring eight goals – his senior year. With eight goals, he finished the season ranked third on the team and tied for fourth in the Big Ten.


Garcia, 21, recorded six goals and seven assists in his four seasons at Villanova, appearing in all but one of his team’s games. He made 20 of his 73 career starts in his senior season and tallied a goal and an assist. The Flushing, N.Y., native, registered two game-winning goals in his career at Villanova and played as a midfielder, forward and defensive wing.


Roach, 23, played three seasons at Saint Louis University after playing one season at Indiana University. He scored 14 goals and seven assists in three seasons, pushing his career totals to 15 goals and eight assists. In his first season with the Billikens in 2009, Roach, a St. Louis, Mo., native tallied 11 goals – paving the way for 2010 preseason All-America and A-10 all-conference honors. In 10 appearances as a senior, his four assists were a team-best.
