FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution today placed three first-year players on waivers: forward Alan Koger, defender Otto Loewy and midfielder Andrew Sousa. All three players are available to the other 18 teams in Major League Soccer through this afternoon’s Waiver Draft following the conclusion of the Expansion Draft. None of the three players saw any action in MLS regular-season games in 2011.
Additionally, the Revolution did not have a player taken by league newcomer Montreal Impact in the Expansion Draft, which occurred at 3 p.m. This marks the second year in a row that the Revs came away from an Expansion Draft unscathed.
Koger, 24, appeared in all 10 games, scoring two goals, in the MLS Reserve League. He made eight starts while playing mostly as a forward. He also saw time as a center back. Koger also appeared in both of the team’s U.S. Open Cup Play-In matches this year, scoring the game-winning goal at D.C. United on April 26. The Revolution originally drafted Koger in the third round (54th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
Loewy, 24, made seven appearances in the MLS Reserve League, all at center back. He scored one goal, the game-winning goal at Toronto on June 21. He also started both of the team’s play-in matches in this year’s U.S. Open Cup. Loewy signed with the Revolution as a free agent on March 31, 2011.
Sousa, 22, appeared in eight games in the MLS Reserve League, scoring two goals. He mainly played in the central midfield, but made one start at center back. He also started the team’s U.S. Open Cup Play-In match at Kansas City on May 25. The Revolution originally drafted Sousa in the third round (42nd overall) of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft.
