Kevin Alston vs. San Jose Earthquakes

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (4-11-11, 23 pts.) will train three days this week after an unschedule bye weekend caused by Hurricane Irene. The Revs’ match at Philadelphia, originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28, was re-scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7, when the storm’s path up the East Coast became more defined late last week.


While the first team does not have a game slated this weekend, the reserve squad will face Toronto FC on Friday, Sept. 2, at Gillette Stadium at 10 a.m.


The Revs will return to MLS action next week with two games. On Wednesday, Sept. 7, the Revs will travel to Philadelphia to play Sunday’s re-scheduled match, which will kick off at 8 p.m. at PPL Park. On Saturday, Sept. 10, New England will host FC Dallas on Sept. 10 at Gillette Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

Irene Affects Revs Schedule

On Thursday, Aug. 25, MLS announced that the Revolution’s match at Philadelphia, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28, would be postponed because of the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene … the match was re-scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7, at PPL Park … kick-off is set for 8 p.m. … Comcast SportsNet will televise the game, while 98.5 The Sports Hub will carry the game on the radio.


Long Way To Go To Next Match

The Revs have a 17-day break between league games Sunday’s game in Philadelphia was re-scheduled because of Hurricane Irene … the 17-day break (August 21 to Sept. 6) is the longest off stretch between contests in club history … in 2010, the Revs had a 21-day break between league games for the 2010 FIFA World Cup (June 6-June 26), but played a friendly against Cruzeiro on June 13 … in 2008, the Revs went 35 days between league matches – from July 5 and August 8 – but played one U.S. Open Cup and five SuperLiga matches during that span.


Mansally Called for Gambia Match

Kenny Mansally has been called up by Gambia to play in its match against Namibia in Windhoek on Saturday, Sept. 3 … Mansally was scheduled to depart Boston and fly to Namibia early this week, in preparation for Saturday’s friendly … he has eight caps with Gambia since joining the senior team in 2008.


Reserve See Next Action

While the first team is off this weekend during the FIFA window, the team’s Reserve squad will be in action on Friday … the Revs reserves will host the Toronto FC reserves on Friday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. … the teams last met on June 22 in Toronto when New England took a 3-2 win behind Ryan Guy’s 86th-minute game-winning goal … the Revs reserves are now 3-3-1 on the season.
