  • The Revolution drew the two-game season series against FC Dallas in 2010 as the teams played to a pair of draws … the teams played to a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium on May 1 after the Revs went down to nine men following red cards to Joseph Niouky and Kheli Dube … on Sept. 22, the teams played to a 2-2 draw at Pizza Hut Park after Shalrie Joseph and Ilija Stolica scored and Jeff Cunningham knotted the score in stoppage time

Player Notes vs. Dallas

  • Sainey Nyassi has recorded one goal and one assist against Dallas … his goal came on April 4, 2009, and was the game-tying goal at home in the second half before Steve Ralston converted a penalty for the game-winning goal … he earlier assisted on Adam Cristman’s goal on June 6, 2008, also at home

TEAM NOTES

Joseph Declines Gold Cup Call-Up
After initially accepting Grenada’s call-up for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Shalrie Joseph decided this weekend to remain with the Revolution and decline the opportunity to play for his homeland … the Grenadian-born midfielder was initially included on Grenada’s roster, but had not decided if he would play in the Gold Cup … last week he informed the Revs he would accept the call-up, but on Tuesday morning, he arrived at Revolution training at Gillette Stadium and informed the technical staff he would remain with the Revs for the tournament instead of joining Grenada.

Honorary Western Conference Members
Saturday’s match at Dallas will mark the Revolution’s 10th match – in 13 matches – against Western Conference teams … the Revs have only played fellow Eastern Conference members three times so far this season (vs. D.C. United – March 26, at Houston – April 17, vs. Kansas City – April 23) … the Revs come into Saturday’s match with a 1-4-4 mark against teams from the West with the sole win coming against Vancouver on May 14 … the team’s four draws came at LA (March 20), against Portland (April 2), at Vancouver (April 6) and against Colorado (May 7).

Defensive Lockdown In Recent Weeks …
After a season-worst 3-0 loss at Chivas USA on April 30, the Revs’ defense has gone into lockdown mode in MLS regular-season matches, allowing just three goals in the last four games, including back-to-back shutouts … the team’s back-to-back shutouts – on May 7 against Colorado and May 14 against Vancouver – were the team’s first since Aug. 7, 2010 (1-0 win against D.C.) and Aug. 14, 2010 (1-0 win against Houston) … Matt Reis has been in goal for each of the team’s last four matches, and has posted an 0.75 goals against average in that stretch.

… But Team’s Scoring Issues Persist
While the Revs’ defense has stepped up the last month, the team has struggled in the attacking half of the field … the team has scored just two goals in the last four games, both coming off set pieces … Shalrie Joseph converted a penalty kick – the game-winning goal – against Vancouver on May 14, while Chris Tierney added a free-kick goal at San Jose on May 21 … the team was shut out against defending MLS Cup champion Colorado on May 7, and against the MLS-leading LA Galaxy on May 28 … the team has not scored from the run of play since Rajko Lekic’s 83rd-minute goal against Sporting Kansas City on April 23.

Lineup Stability Continues
In each of the last three games, Steve Nicol has deployed the same starting lineup … these last three games mark the only times this season he has used the same starting lineup in multiple games … overall, Nicol has used 10 different lineups in 12 games … prior to the May 14 match against Vancouver, Nicol had twice used the same 10 field players as the previous starting lineup – against Portland (April 2) and at Vancouver (April 6) - but the goalkeepers were different in both games: Matt Reis vs. Portland and Bobby Shuttleworth at Vancouver.

Hundreds of soccer players from all over the region will be in action on Sunday, July 17, when Futbolito, the official 4-v-4 tournament of Major League Soccer, returns to the New England area … MLS Futbolito is being presented locally by MetroPCS … for the first time ever, the men’s premier championship match will be played on the game field during halftime of the Revolution’s match against the Philadelphia Union that evening … registration is currently open at MLSfutbolito.com and interested participants with questions can call toll-free at 1-888-MLS-FUTBOLITO … the entrance fee is $150 per team for those competing in the Adult Premier Division, and $120 per team for all other participants.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT NEWS

The Revs’ youth development teams split a pair of games with cross-town rivals, FC Greater Boston Bolts, on Saturday at Gillette Stadium … the Under-18s dropped a 4-0 decision to Bolts, before the Under-16s claimed a 3-1, come-from-behind victory in the second game … in the second game, Devin Devoy (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored two goals, including the game-tying goal and the go-ahead goal in the 63rd and 65th minutes, respectively, before Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) tallied the insurance strike in 69th minute … David Hepp (Natick, Mass.) made three saves in the win.

With the loss, the Revolution Under-18 team – now 8-10-6 – sits in fourth place in the Northeast Division … the Under-16s now hold an 11-7-6 record after the weekend’s win, and remain in second place in the division … both teams return to action on Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12, when the teams travel to face Oakwood Soccer Club (Portland, Conn.) and South Central Premier (Bridgeport, Conn.) in their final regular-season matches of the year.

The Under-16s could clinch a spot in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs by securing just one point from the upcoming weekend’s two games … should they take one point from the two games, the U16s would qualify for the Development Academy Playoffs for the second year in a row.
