Youth Update

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Under-18s and Under-16s each played one match at Harvard University’s Soldier Field on Saturday, April 30, going a combined 1-0-1 against division rival FC Greater Boston, also known as the Boston Bolts.

UNDER-18s
The Under-18s played FC Greater Boston to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, coming away with a point on the road. The Revs opened scoring in the 22nd minute when midfielder Michael Rincon (Malden, Mass.) made a surging run up the right wing. Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) then received the ball at the end line before connecting with forward Cole Denormandie (Lincoln, Mass.), who fired a shot from the top of the six yard-box. Though both teams saw several chances before the end of the half, the visitors went into the break with the goal advantage. New England applied more pressure during the second half, but the Bolts were able to level the score off of a corner kick in the 64th minute, and the draw held through to the final whistle.

UNDER-16s
The Under-16s earned a full three points on Saturday, defeating the Bolts, 1-0. The Revs came out of the gates flying, spending much of the first 10 minutes in the attacking third. Devin Devoy (North Attleboro, Mass.) finally found the back of the net in the 31st minute, receiving a through ball from midfielder Frederico Ferre (Waltham, Mass.) before calmly slotting it past the goalkeeper. Both teams had chances in the second half, but the score held with the help of goalkeeper David Hepp (Natick, Mass.), who made a series of saves to earn his third shutout of the season.

With Saturday’s draw, the Revolution Under-18 team – now 6-9-4 – is now in fifth place in the Northeast Division. The Under-16s now hold a 7-6-6 record after Saturday’s win, and are in third place in the division. Both teams are off this weekend, and will next play division rivals South Central Premier at the Fruit Street Athletic Field Complex (Hopkinton, Mass.) on Saturday, May 14, and Oakwood Soccer Club at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, May 15.
