Postgame Quotes: Dynamo 1, Revolution 0

Darrius Barnes vs. Houston Dynamo

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On being shorthanded …
“Every team wants all their players available; unfortunately, we didn’t have that. In the first half we tried to generate some stuff at the other end; in the second half we couldn’t get anything going. I thought we defended really well. The real problem we had was set pieces. We challenged really well.” NEW ENGLAND

REVOLUTION DEFENDER KEVIN ALSTON

On the game …
“It was a tough match. Houston is a good team. I feel like we fought hard, and they fought hard. It was 50-50 for most of the match. I think we were a little unlucky to allow that goal the way it played out – it could have been a hand ball.”

On the goal …
“It’s hard to say. It looked like the guy might have boxed Matt [Reis] out, but it’s really up to the referee. I thought it hit his hand. I don’t think the referee was in a good position.”

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER RYAN COCHRANE

On returning to Houston …
“It’s always fun to come back and play against your old team. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted, but they are a good side. Give all credit to them; they are a good team. The ball just didn’t bounce our way in the match.”

On the game …
“It was hard-fought. There were a lot of chances on both sides, and unfortunately it’s just a questionable decision that’s the result of the game. The ball just didn’t bounce our way tonight. I think we were a bit unlucky to not come out with a tie in the game.”

HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game …
“Obviously the goal relieves all of the frustration, and the guys walk off the field happy. It’s good to get another three points. It’s good to get two wins in a row, which we hadn’t done all year, and it leaves us with a good feeling going into next week.

On Hunter Freeman’s goal …
“He is just supposed to be a distraction to make sure the goalkeeper can’t come out and catch the ball easily. He took a hit in the first half, so for him to be in there and be a menace is a testament to him. It’s one of those things where you just go in there and make sure the goalkeeper doesn’t have an easy path to the ball.”

On Corey Ashe’s play at left back …
“He has been playing very well over there and has played against some good players. Tonight was a little different because they had a big player over there and they tried to loft some balls to him. Corey did very well, though. Quickness-wise, you aren’t going to get a lot of balls behind him. On the ball he is very calm, makes good runs, and makes good decisions.”

DYNAMO FORWARD WILL BRUIN

On the game …
“I had my chances, and next time I’ll put them in. It’s just awesome that we found a way to get a goal and get the win. We had our chances, and it doesn’t matter if it’s an upper corner shot or it just goes over the line, a goal is a goal.”

DYNAMO FORWARD CAM WEAVER

On the game …
“The whole team, we played for 90 minutes. We dominated the game and didn’t give them many chances. We created a ton of chances for us. On another night it could have been 5-0. It just seemed like it wasn’t our night. To keep pushing on all the way to the end and finally get that goal, it’s three points and we are really happy with that.”
