Revs Remain Unbeaten in Preseason

The Revs improved to 4-0-0 in the 2011 preseason with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Sunday … Sainey Nyassi scored his second goal of the preseason campaign in the 43rd minute and Zack Schilawski scored the eventual game-winner in the 81st minute … Tom Heinemann scored an unassisted tally in stoppage time for Columbus … the goal was the first of the preseason scored against the Revs


Defense Continues to Shine
The Revs have allowed just one goal in 360 minutes of preseason game action, with the lone score coming in the 91st minute on Sunday, March 6, against the Columbus Crew … New England posted three straight shutouts to start preseason, all three games coming in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 3-13 … on that trip, the Revs shut out the University of Central Florida (Feb. 18, 2-0), members of the U.S. Under-17 men’s national team (Feb. 21, 2-0) and FC Dallas (Feb. 23, 1-0).


Nyassi Scores Again
Fifth-year midfielder Sainey Nyassi scored the game’s opening goal for the second straight match with a 43rd minute goal against Columbus on Sunday, March 6 … Nyassi also scored in the 10th minute against FC Dallas on Feb. 23 … Nyassi scored three goals and added two assists in a team-high 28 appearances in 2010 … the Gambia international is the only Revs player who has scored more than one goal this preseason.


Augustine Joins Team
On Friday, March 4, the Revolution signed Nigerian midfielder Michael Augustine … Augustine, 18, comes to the MLS from Nigeria’s FCT Abuja … after starting his career with the Abuja academy team in 2005, Augustine was elevated to the club’s first team in 2008 with whom he scored 18 goals … … Augustine made his preseason debut with the Revs against Columbus on March 6, entering the game as a substitute to start the second half at right midfield … he trained with the team for the first team on Friday, March 5, after taking a red eye flight from Lagos, Nigeria, overnight and landing in Atlanta at 5 a.m.


Boggs and Murray Re-Sign

Second-year players Zak Boggs and Tim Murray re-signed with the Revs on Wednesday, March 2 … Boggs made nine appearances – including four starts – in 2010, but missed the entire second half of the season after suffering a concussion in training in late June … Murray did not appear for the first team in 2010, but finished the season second on the goalkeeper depth chart after injuries to Matt Reis and Preston Burpo during the year.


Rookies Kinne, Koger and Sousa Sign

On Thursday, March 3, the Revs signed 2011 SuperDraft selections Ryan Kinne and Alan Koger, as well as Supplemental Draft selection Andrew Sousa … Kinne, 21, was a NSCAA All-American, Hermann Trophy semifinalist and Northeast Conference player of the year in both his junior and senior seasons at Monmouth … Koger, 23, was an all-region selection following his senior season at William & Mary after scoring 10 goals in 22 matches … Sousa, 21 and a Fall River, Mass., native, scored seven goals and added six assists in three seasons at Providence after playing one season at Limestone College (S.C.).


Conference Calls from Atlanta

The first of two scheduled conference calls from the Atlanta trip will take place at 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday, March 7 … head coach Steve Nicol, goalkeeper Matt Reis and defender A.J. Soares will be available on the call … a second call is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, with Nicol and selected players … details for that call will be distributed to members of the media approximately 36-48 hours ahead of the call.


Individual Tickets Now on Sale

Individual game tickets to 2011 Revolution matches are now on sale ... tickets purchased in advance start at $20 for The Fort, and $21 for corner seats … the 2011 season marks the first season in Gillette Stadium history that the West side of the stadium will be opened for Revolution regular-season matches … for more information or to purchase tickets, call 1-877-GET-REVS or visit revolutionsoccer.net.


Media Day – March 16, 2011

The Revolution will hold its annual Media Day on Wednesday, March 16, at Gillette Stadium … every member of the Revolution roster and coaching staff will be on hand and available to media, following a press luncheon and press availability for Chief Operating Officer Brian Bilello and Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT NEWS
Youth Teams Split to Open Spring

The Revolution youth teams opened their U.S. Developmental Academy spring schedules last weekend, playing a pair of games against NJSA 04 on Saturday, March 5, and Match Fit Chelsea on Sunday, March 6 … the U-16s swept a pair of results, defeating NJSA 04, 3-2, and Match Fit Chelsea, 3-1 … the U-18s suffered losses to both NJSA 04 (1-0) and Match Fit Chelsea (4-3) … Diego Fagundez – the Revs’ first-ever Home Grown Player – had one goal and one assist with the U-16s against NJSA 04 and one assist playing with the U-18s against Match Fit Chelsea.


Another Busy Week for Academy

Both the Revolution youth teams will train Tuesday through Thursday this week, 7:30-9 p.m., at Forekicks in Marlborough, Mass … the U-16s and U-18s will host to PA Classics and FC Delco at Gillette Stadium Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, March 13, respectively … the U-18s will play at 10 a.m. each day with the U-16s kicking off at 12:30 p.m.
