2011 Combine, SuperDraft details announced

NEW YORK (November 11, 2010) – Major League Soccer today announced that the 2011 adidas MLS Player Combine will be held from January 8-11 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., concluding two days prior to the 2011 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas. For the eighth consecutive year, the SuperDraft will be held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention, on January 13 at 12:00 p.m. ET, in Baltimore, Maryland at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Coaching and technical staffs from all 18 MLS clubs will be in attendance to scout the top talent at the annual Player Combine. The list of participating players will be announced in December.

The 2011 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas will include four rounds and 72 overall selections. Vancouver Whitecaps FC will have the first overall selection in the 2011 SuperDraft while the Portland Timbers will select second. The next eight selections are from teams that did not qualify for the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs beginning with the team with fewest 2010 regular season points (3 points per win, one point per tie). The remaining eight positions are ranked by fewest regular season points among the teams that were eliminated in the same round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
