FOXBOROUGH - The New England Revolution announced today that the team has signed forward-midfielder Luis Fangoso to a one-day contract. Fangoso immediately announced his retirement from soccer as a member of the Revolution.

"The hunger never dies," Fangoso said in a statement. "But there comes a time when it's time to move on - and now is that time. And I am going to lunch."

Known as "El Lobo" or "The Rock of Gibraltar" to fans, Fangoso remains one of the great enigmas of world soccer. Fangoso first signed with the Revs in April of 2004. After a promising start to his time in Foxborough, which saw him become an instant fan favorite, the Argentine-born Gibraltarian slipped back to his homeland on the Iberian Peninsula. Though never playing in a Revs first team match, he dazzled home fans and television audiences alike with his array of techniques and wolven hairstyles.

[inline_node:66242]Fangoso again signed with the Revolution in April of 2007. But after a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire in the 2007 season opener, Fangoso missed the team bus to the airport and hadn't been seen again - until today.

"We're just glad he made it back from Chicago," said head coach Steve Nicol. "Three years is a long time to be waiting for a bus." Nicol went on to say that, "We're happy to have him retire as a member of this organization."

After beginning his pro career with a short spell in the Argentine lower leagues, El Lobo went to Paraguay to play for Ciudad del Este. Fangoso then moved on to fulfill his dream of playing in Europe by signing with Range Rovers in Guernsey. In Gibraltar, El Lobo became a legend of sorts, which led to his signing with the Revs in ’04. Two years back in the Gibraltar League with Exiles F.C. only made Fangoso a more composed and experienced player.

When asked to give a final statement to the Revolution and their fans, Fangoso said, "Happy April fool's day."
