GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS: REVS TRAINING INTENSIFIES

After the first week of preseason training consisted almost entirely of fitness work, the second week began a transition away from the conditioning routine and incorporated ball work into the sessions of the club’s six training sessions last week, only two were strictly fitness workouts, with the other four including passing drills, possession exercises and small-sided games the progression toward ball work and scrimmages is expected to continue this week as the Revs prepare for a trio of preseason games in mid-March.


REVS TO PLAY THREE PRESEASON GAMES IN NORTH CAROLINA

The Revolution will travel to North Carolina for a 10-day preseason training trip during which the club will play three matches against the Charlotte Eagles (USL-2), Carolina RailHawks (NASL) and a yet-to-be-determined opponent the team will be based in Cary, N.C., during the trip, which begins on March 10 for the second year in a row, the Revs will train at the RailHawks’ WakeMed Soccer Park for the duration of the trip the schedule of games is as follows:

INJURY FORCES ALSTON TO WITHDRAW FROM U.S. CAMP

Kevin Alston was forced to withdraw from the current U.S. National Team camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., because of a left hamstring injury the 21-year-old defender was set to report to U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center on Feb. 10, but he tweaked his hamstring while training with the Revs on Feb. 9 instead, Alston will remain in Foxborough and rehab the injury with the Revs’ athletic training staff this is the second time Alston has missed out on the opportunity to train with the senior national team, as he suffered a similar hamstring injury during the first training camp of 2010 from Jan. 4 – 23 the U.S. will play El Salvador on Feb. 24 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., at the conclusion of the current camp.


NAVIA COMPLETES THREE-DAY TRIAL

Chilean forward Reinaldo Navia completed a three-day trial with the Revolution last week, participating in the club’s training sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the 31-year-old, who has scored 10 goals in 40 appearances for the Chile National Team, returned to Chile following the completion of his trial.


INVITATION-ONLY TRYOUT HAS YIELDED TALENT IN THE PAST

The Revolution’s invitation-only tryout is set to take place at the Dana-Farber Field House on the grounds of Gillette Stadium this Thursday afternoon, and it’s not unheard of for the Revs to discover talented players at the annual event current Revolution defender Chris Tierney impressed the club’s coaching staff at the 2008 tryout, prompting the Revs to select him in the MLS Supplemental Draft the following day meanwhile, former Revolution goalkeepers Brad Knighton and Zack Simmons also took part in the invitation-only tryout prior to being signed by the club.


REVS YOUTH TEAMS TO BEGIN 2010 SEASON THIS WEEKEND

The Revolution’s Under-16 and Under-18 teams will kick off the 2010 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season with a pair of road games against conference opponents this weekend the schedule opens with matches against South Central Premier on Saturday, Feb. 20, with the U16s set to kick off at 11 a.m. and the U18s to follow at 1 p.m. at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn. both teams will then visit the Oakwood Soccer Club at Oakwood Soccer Park in Glastonbury, Conn., on Sunday, Feb. 21 the U16s will kick off against Oakwood at 2 p.m., while the U18s will follow at 4 p.m.


REV GIRLS TRYOUTS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, FEB. 20

The Revolution will hold its annual tryouts for the Rev Girls, the team’s promotional group, on Saturday, Feb. 20 registration will begin at 10 a.m. in the East Fidelity Investments Clubhouse at Gillette Stadium, and the tryouts will last approximately three hours until 1 p.m. women interested in interviewing must be at least 18 years of age by March 1, 2010 the Rev Girls, entering their second year, run promotions at games and nighttime events and make public appearances on behalf of the team for more information about the Rev Girls or the tryout process, contact Jennifer Harvey at jenniferh@revolutionsoccer.net.
