Jerry Bengtson

An out-and-out striker, Bengtson was on the Revolution’s radar for several years before transferring to the club in July 2012 ... excels in all aspects of the attack, including playing with his back to goal, combining with teammates, creating his own shot and supporting the attack into the area … a proven scorer for both club and country, Bengtson scored more than 60 goals in more than 150 games across all competitions since 2007 before arriving in New England ... a three-time scoring champion in Honduras’ La Liga Nacional (2010 Clausura, 2011 Apertura, 2011 Clausura) ... a right-footed player ... has developed into one of the Honduras national team’s most lethal and consistent scorers.

2012: Signed with the club on July 5 and was officially added to the roster on July 6. Made 13 appearances, including 10 starts, while balancing significant international commitments throughout the summer and fall. Scored two goals. Scored his first career goal in his Revolution – and MLS – debut in a 30-minute substitute appearance against New York (July 8), becoming the fifth Revolution player to score a goal in a MLS debut with the Revs. Departed to join Honduras’ Olympic team on Monday, July 16, and returned to make his first career start at forward against Montreal (Aug. 12). Scored his second goal of the season in the start at forward at Columbus (Aug. 25). Missed the match against Columbus (Sept. 5) while with the Honduras National team for FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Cuba (Sept. 7 and 11). Returned to the Revs with a start at D.C. (Sept. 15) and lined up with the starters for each of the final six games of the season.

BEFORE MLS: Began his professional career in the 2007 Apertura season with Honduras’ Vida ... played with his original club through the 2010 Apertura season ... in each of his final two seasons with the Cocoteros – the 2010 Clausura and 2011 Apertura campaigns – won the La Liga scoring titles with 13 and 12 goals, respectively ... moved to Motagua in November 2010, and began playing with the club during the 2011 Clausura season ... continued his goal-scoring prowess with his new club, again capturing the league’s scoring title for the third-straight season with a 15-goal effort ... his 15-goal season was the league’s highest single-season output by a single player since Carlos Pavon scored 15 goals in the 2007 Clausura season ... helped Motagua capture the 2011 Clausura title that season, leading the club to a berth in the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League ... was a visible presence on Motagua’s Champions League squad, appearing in all six group-stage contests and scoring one of the team’s two goals.

HONDURAS NATIONAL TEAM: Has been a member of the Honduras National Team since 2010 ... has earned 26 caps and scored 13 goals as of Jan. 1, 2013 .... Honduras is 6-0-3 in games in which he’s scored ... was also a member of Honduras’ Under-23 team (as an overage player) at the 2012 London Olympic Games … earned his senior first-ever cap on April 21, 2010, in a 1-0 loss to Venezuela in a friendly ... scored first international goal came in a friendly against Ecuador on Feb. 9, 2011, and he followed it with a goal against El Salvador (May 29, 2011) in a 2-0 victory in a friendly in Houston ... scored three goals for Honduras during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup as the team advanced to the semifinals, losing to eventual champion Mexico ... in that tournament, scored twice against Grenada (June 10, 2011 in Miami) and against Costa Rica (June 18, 2011 in East Rutherford, N.J.) ... added one goal against Jamaica in a friendly on Oct. 11, 2011 in La Ceiba, Honduras ... had two goals in a friendly against Serbia on Nov. 14, 2011 ... was named to Honduras’ 2012 Olympic roster as one of its three overage players in the Under-23 tournament and the Revolution granted him permission to represent Honduras at the Olympic games in London ... started all four of Honduras’ matches at the 2012 Olympics ... scored three goals to lead Honduras to the quarterfinals for the first time in the country’s history: scored both goals in a 2-2 draw against Morocco on July 25, before scoring the game’s only goal in a 1-0 upset victory over gold-medal favorite Spain on July 29 ... scored in a start in the national team’s friendly against Argentine power Boca Juniors on Aug. 15, 2012 ... scored the game-winning goal in each of Honduras’ two World Cup Qualifiers against Cuba: a 3-0 win on Sept. 7, 2012 and a 1-0 victory on Sept. 11, 2012 ... was called in for Honduras’ WCQ at Panama (Oct. 12) and made the start at forward in the 0-0 draw ... scored three goals and added two assists in Honduras’ 8-1 home WCQ win against Canada on Oct. 16 to secure a place in the Hexagonal Round.
