Postgame Quotes: Revs 1, Dynamo 0

Postgame quotes after the  New England Revolution defeated the Houston Dynamo 1-0 at Robertson Stadium in Houston, Texas on July 25, 2009.

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

“We want to keep carrying on and continue winning, but we have to take things one game at a time. Houston is a tough team, and we are delighted to get the win tonight.”

“It is up to the players to the get the job done, and I give full credit to them. This was a huge win for us. The field is small, which makes set pieces tougher, and you have to compete off the bat against Houston, which we did.”

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION GOALKEEPER MATT REIS

On the game...
“I thought it was pretty hot out there tonight. The game went by pretty fast. I think both teams created a lot of chances. We were fortunate to get out of there with a 1-0 win. We are getting to a point in the season where we need three points.”

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD KHELI DUBE

On game…
“You look at some of the guys that played ninety minutes, and I think they played their hearts out; they did everything they could. It’s always tough to come back, especially considering the conditions here.”

On goal…
“We weren’t as crisp as we have been in the final third tonight, but we got our chance, and we finished it. Any time you sit back, you get the ball ,wide and make your runs in the box, so I was served a great ball, and it was pretty easy for me to finish.”

HOUSTON HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game…
“Not a good game. I think the heat zapped a lot of energy. Not an explosive game; there was a lot of passing on both sides. We had a chance to score some tonight, we were just off, and they got theirs.”

On Houston’s defense…
“Well, they have good attacking players, and when you’re playing good attackers, at times we were OK, and then they got some shots a little bit. I thought in the second half, they were OK. Just the overall game was a little less than what we are used to.”

HOUSTON GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On the game…
“I thought it was a C-plus game. We didn’t play very well and not with very much energy, but I don’t think it was from a lack of effort. Just tonight, for whatever reason, we looked flat.”

On the goal…

“When I went down, I knew he was going to get there first. I was going to take a knock, and I thought I got it, but unfortunately it hit off him and went in, and it’s frustrating, but those things happen.”

HOUSTON DEFENDER ANDREW HAINAULT

On the home loss…
“It’s frustrating, but you have to learn from it. You learn more from your losses than from your wins. We can’t let this happen again.”

On midfielder Sainey Nyassi…
“He’s a quick guy. I don’t think he did too much by himself. He did a good job of getting open when we had a guy sliding over in case he got by you. We need to do a little bit better. Luckily he didn’t hurt us too much and we need to do better, but he is a quick player.”

On Shalrie Joseph…
“Joseph is one of those players who can possess and use his body well. We kind of expected that, and we could have done better with it, but that’s what happens.”
