Postgame Quotes: Revs 3, Wizards 1
Postgame quotes after the Revolution defeated the Kansas City Wizards on April 9, 2008

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On the match
"It was a fantastic result. We showed a real togetherness after our last result, and obviously with the changes we had to make to the lineup, we showed we can get a result and never give up. It's never a hopeless cause with this team because they always stand up to be counted. That's what you saw tonight. We're proud of them."

On Gambian players Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi
"They did a great job tonight, but the thing to remember is they always have things to learn, but with that always comes a tremendous ability on the field."

On Amaechi Igwe making his first MLS appearance and start
"Iggy came in and was real solid and that's what we wanted from him. He did exactly what we wanted tonight."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD KENNY MANSALLY

On his first career goal
"During the warming up, I said to Sainey, ‘Look this is so important today. I think I’m going to score a goal.’ You know, something like that. So by then I was planning that and I finished it easy. It felt really great scoring my first goal. So I think more good things are coming. That’s what I’m looking for."

On playing with so many other young players
"It was great for our team, for us.  We are young, so we keep talking and working."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER MICHAEL PARKHURST

On winning on the road
"It was big for us, especially early in the season. You know, obviously, we were disappointed in how that went. We were all looking forward to getting back onto the field as soon as possible, and we had a great start and we were able to build on that and build on it in the second half, so it was a big win for us."

On scoring an early goal
"Absolutely it helps because it makes them push and things open up for us and the guys are able to get in behind them and we are able attack on a couple more goals. If we hadn’t had that early goal, things wouldn’t have opened up as much for us."

On the multiple defensive formations in New England’s first three games
"It just shows the mentality of the guys. The guys that are coming off the bench, they know what their job is, know they are filling in good with the team. I mean they are coming in and doing their job and helping us get the results."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO

On the game
"We had an awful lot of chances to make sure that we were in the game, at least to probably get a tie. Unfortunately things didn’t go our way tonight. The important thing is that we have a game on Saturday, so we have to regroup and get our guys in the right mindset to play against the defending champion Houston Dynamo."

On how the game played out
"We gave up goals on set pieces against a team that’s very good at that.  We knew they were going to come here and that was going to be part of their game plan. Having said that, we had opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net, and we didn’t do that."

On rookies Chance Myers and Roger Espinoza
"I thought they both did fine. We played Chance out on the left, which is a little out of position for him. It took him a little while to get used to it. I thought he had some very good defensive plays and I thought he did well with the ball. I thought Roger did fine as well. Those are all good signs for our group of young, talented players."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS MIDFIELDER JACK JEWSBURY

On the loss
"It’s disappointing anytime you lose. We felt like we were on a pretty good roll (coming into this game) but we came out a little bit flat in the first half. They got that first goal, Tyson cleared it off my foot which was kind of unlucky. We came back, got a penalty kick and get back in the game. Then we let up two goals before halftime, so that was disappointing, but we’ve got another game Saturday to bounce back. If we win Saturday, it will be three out of four at home to start the season, and that’s not bad."

On the own goal
"Those are always tough. But we came back from that a couple minutes later with a little bit of fire and equalized."

On the team’s mentality going into the second half
"We knew we had to come out with some fire in the second half, and I think we did. We were hoping to finish one early in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half to really put them on their heels. We had our chances, but we didn’t get one to fall for us."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS DEFENDER CHANCE MYERS

On his first MLS appearance
"I thought the field was really wet and fast, but I thought I adjusted well. It took a couple of minutes but I enjoyed it. I was playing on the left, which is different, but it was all right. If I’m on the outside it doesn’t matter to me if it’s right side or left side."

On what the team needs to do to prepare for Saturday’s match
"Just come out and be ready to play. I think tonight we got off to kind of a slow star, but if we continue to do the things we do well I think we’ll be all right on Saturday against Houston.
