Quiz Follow-Up: How much did you remember compared to fellow Revs fans?

Breaking down the results of last week’s quiz

Last week we created a 10-question quiz designed to test your knowledge of the New England Revolution’s 2013 season. The questions required fans to recall specific dates, statistics, facts and figures from last season, and by design, it wasn’t very easy.

Haven’t taken the quiz yet? Do it now!

As a follow-up, we thought it would be fun to go through the results of the quiz to see which questions were the hardest and which were the easiest. Does the data match your experience? Did you get any of the harder questions right? Let us know in the comments section.

From which Eastern Conference opponent did the Revolution acquire the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, which was used to select Andrew Farrell?

A.    D.C. United – 23 percent
B.    Philadelphia Union – 14 percent
C.    Columbus Crew – 11 percent
D.    Toronto FC – 52 percent (Correct Answer)

It’s always good to ease your way into things, so we began the quiz with what turned out to be one of the easiest of the 10 questions. More than half (52%) of all respondents knew that the Revs traded the number four pick and allocation money to TFC in exchange for the number one overall selection.

Which dynamic playmaker led the Revolution with a career-high eight assists?

A.    Diego Fagundez – 11 percent
B.    Kelyn Rowe – 56 percent (Correct Answer)
C.    Lee Nguyen – 25 percent
D.    Chris Tierney – 8 percent

I assumed this would be another of the simpler questions when putting together the quiz, and that turned out to be the case. Kelyn Rowe did indeed lead the Revs with eight assists in 2013, although Diego Fagundez (7), Lee Nguyen (7), Chris Tierney (5) and Saer Sene (5) weren’t far off the pace.

In which game did Jose Goncalves first wear the captain’s armband for the Revolution?

A.    March 23 vs. Sporting Kansas City – 29 percent
B.    May 2 at Portland Timbers – 40 percent (Correct Answer)
C.    May 18 at Houston Dynamo – 23 percent
D.    July 6 vs. San Jose Earthquakes – 7 percent

This one impressed me. I honestly expected this one to be a flat-out guess for many, particularly since Goncalves was the third player to wear the armband last season (after Clyde Simms and Chris Tierney). But I underestimated the fans, who answered correctly at a 40 percent clip; Goncalves first wore the armband in a 0-0 draw with the Portland Timbers in early May.

Diego Fagundez led the Revolution with a career-high 13 goals; how many multi-goal games did the teenager have in 2013?

A.    0 – 13 percent (Correct Answer)
B.    1 – 9 percent
C.    2 – 52 percent
D.    3 – 26 percent

Statistically, this was tied for the most difficult question on the quiz with only 13 percent answering correctly; despite 13 goals last season, Diego Fagundez scored them in 13 different games, never registering a multi-goal game. I’ll admit, I was trying to catch people off guard with this one, and it seemed to do the trick.

How many minutes was the club-record shutout streak the Revolution established between May 11 and June 15?

A.    278 – 4 percent
B.    355 – 38 percent
C.    420 – 36 percent (Correct Answer)
D.    441 – 22 percent

I have to admit, I might not have known the answer to this question without looking it up, simply because it’s such a specific number. Even though it wasn’t the top answer, I was impressed that 36 percent got this one correct. I was even happier to see that only four percent guessed the lowest number – everyone knew the Revolution’s backline was better than that last season.

Against which team did Juan Agudelo score with a back-heel lob, earning him a spot in the finals of Major League Soccer’s Goal of the Year voting?

A.    Chivas USA – 12 percent
B.    Montreal Impact – 16 percent
C.    LA Galaxy – 8 percent
D.    Chicago Fire – 64 percent (Correct Answer)

This proved to be the easiest question on the quiz, with almost two out of every three respondents answering correctly. Apparently everyone was paying attention when Juan Agudelo lobbed Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson in that 2-0 win back in August.

At which stadium did Kevin Alston make his return to the field, four months after being diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia?

A.    RFK Stadium – 39 percent (Correct Answer)
B.    Columbus Crew Stadium – 16 percent
C.    Sporting Park – 18 percent
D.    Gillette Stadium – 26 percent

Almost 40 percent of respondents answered this one correctly, and if you remembered that Kevin Alston is from the Washington, D.C., area, that likely helped. Alston came on for the final six minutes of the Revolution’s 2-1 win over D.C. United on July 27, doing so in front of friends and family at RFK Stadium.

How many games did the Revolution go unbeaten to close the season, clinching the club’s first playoff spot since 2009?

A.    3 – 7 percent
B.    4 – 33 percent
C.    6 – 45 percent (Correct Answer)
D.    7 – 15 percent

This one was engrained in my head as we recited the stats over and over on the website and the Far Post Podcast through the late-season playoff push, and apparently quite a few of the fans remembered it, as well. Almost 50 percent of you knew that the Revs went unbeaten through the final six games of the regular season (4-0-2) to clinch a playoff spot.

The Revolution set a club record for shutouts in a single season; how many clean sheets did the Revs keep in 2013?

A.    8 – 9 percent
B.    11 – 44 percent
C.    13 – 33 percent
D.    14 – 13 percent (Correct Answer)

Along with the question about Fagundez’s multi-goal games, this was statistically the hardest question on the quiz, which actually surprised me a bit. Revs fans certainly knew that the club was solid defensively last season, but perhaps they didn’t realize just how solid, to the tune of 14 clean sheets.

Who scored the only goal in the Revolution’s 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew on Oct. 27, clinching a playoff spot on the final day of the regular season?

A.    Dimitry Imbongo – 22 percent
B.    Juan Agudelo – 38 percent (Correct Answer)
C.    Diego Fagundez – 12 percent
D.    Jose Goncalves – 28 percent

It was perhaps the most exciting moment of the Revolution’s 2013 season, and the fans remembered it pretty well as 38 percent of respondents got this one correct. Agudelo finished off a feed from Lee Nguyen in the 28th minute that afternoon at Crew Stadium, sending the Revs back to the postseason for the first time since 2009.
