Postgame Quotes: Revs 1, Impact 0

Postgame quotes following the Revs' 1-0 win over Montreal Impact

MONTREAL IMPACT

Marco Schällibaum

On the game…

It’s hard to define what went wrong after a game like this, but what I can say is that we weren’t good enough today. I think the will was there, but the quality was not today. We didn’t create enough chances and we kept chasing the game after they scored, which is never easy. We ask a lot of our players to constantly push forward. I know that they would have liked to do better, but that happens time. We needed to try and improve the gap between the teams behind us, but we couldn’t do that today

On trouble scoring goals…

This is a tough question to answer. Sometimes you go through stretches where you score a lot of goals, and you can’t really say why. It’s true; we are missing a little bit in the final 20 metres. We couldn’t penetrate the box. We didn’t make it tough on their defenders.

On looking at the next three games...

We leave for LA Monday and then we have to prepare to try and get all three points. They are looking for points as well, so it won’t be easy, especially playing away. We fell today, but we have to get up. Soccer is cruel sometimes, but that’s the way it is.

On the loss…

The other teams know how we play now, so they make adjustments. We trained a lot this week for this game, but it didn’t work, so we have to come back, sit down and talk a little bit to figure out the problems we are having right now. We are in a tough spot, because we have to win all our games and get back to what we were doing before. We are strong enough to come back.

Is it frustrating as a player to have such a good performance, but come a little short…

At this time, the formation we play nor where we play matters. We have to put more than 100% because at this point, we have only three games. After six tough games, something needs to change and we have to put everything into those games.

Patrice Bernier

On the team’s tough performances late…

We haven’t performed very well lately. Our backs are against the wall right now. It’s not over yet for us, but we have to turn things around quickly. We have to make adjustments quickly and we still have three games ahead of us. We need to go with the fittest players and the most hungry ones to get all three points.

On the next game…

We have to adjust quickly. We still have everything to play for. We have to examine the video, find our intensity and look forward, not behind us. We need to put more guys in the box. At times tonight, we had only one guy in the box. We have to find that will to attack the goal and get into the box on crosses.

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

JAY HEAPS

General Impressions on the game…

I’m really proud of our guys because we came to a very tough place to play and we had a tough schedule. Our guys came out with the right mentality, although in the second half we made some mistakes we quickly recuperated.

How important was the mentality of the team today…

You run into situations on the field that take the better of the game, so everyone’s heart went out to what happened to Saer. It’s a devastating play to be a part of for both teams and the response from our guys coming together and making plays and almost getting a goal almost ten minutes after was amazing, so I’m really proud of our guys for that.

How important was this win for New England…

It was really important, it was crucial. I think these three points were the most important to get so far because the Impact is a point away, so now it’s anyone’s ball game for the last two spots.

JOSE GONCALVES

General Impressions on the game…

It was a big three points for us today. When we come to Montreal we want to get those three points because we knew that it would very difficult for us to get a spot in the playoffs if we failed.

On the lead up to his goal…

The ball was still in the box and we had an advantage over the Montreal players. So Diego crossed it and Juan was there and they missed the ball and I was right behind them. I had a great chance so it was not an option to miss it.

MATT REIS

General Impressions on the game…

For us it was huge to get these three points, to come in and get the goal and to fight and defend. Jose led us like a captain, he scored a goal and did everything at the end to see the game out. So for us it was mission accomplished, that’s exactly what we wanted to do.

What were your expectations coming in playing against Montreal…

We knew from playing them just about a month ago that they’re a good team and that if you give them time and space they can pass the ball around us. So we tried our best to disrupt their rhythm and disrupt their ability to play. We did that in the first half, got the goal and that changed everything.
