Revolution adds Dimitry Imbongo

Revs add young French striker from 1860 Munich reserve squad

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution has acquired French striker Dimitry Imbongo on a free transfer after coming up through TSV 1860 Munich’s system. Imbongo will be officially added to the team pending the receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa, and will count as an international player on the team’s roster.

“Dimitry will give us another option up front and provide us with more depth in our attack,” General Manager Michael Burns said. “When he was in training with us last month, he fit in well with our players and now we’re looking forward to his arrival back to Foxboro this time on a permanent basis.”

Imbongo, 22, joins the Revs after spending the 2011-12 season on loan from 1860 Munich to German third division club SV Darmstadt 98, where he made 13 appearances and had two assists.

He began his professional career with TSV 1860 Munich, moving up from its youth team to its reserve team. He played parts of four seasons (2008-09 to 2011-12) with TSV 1860 Munich II, the reserve side which plays in the lower levels of Germany’s professional system.

After making his debut appearance with the reserves in 2009, he made 16 appearances and scored 16 goals while adding one assist in the 2009-10 season. Imbongo followed that with six goals and three assists in 25 appearances in 2010-11. Imbongo also played on 1860 Munich’s Under-19 team, making 17 appearances and scoring two goals in 2008-09.
