Youth teams go 0-1-1 against division rivals

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution youth teams faced division rivals FC Greater Boston at Harvard University’s Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium on Saturday, May 19.

Combined, the Revs' youth teams went 0-1-1, with the U16s earning a 2-2 draw for a point in the away portion of the two-game series.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Greater Boston on Saturday. The teams remained deadlocked throughout the first half, entering the break scoreless. Early in the second half, however, Greater Boston’s Victor Parra scored the go-ahead goal. The Revs searched for an answer to the 46th-minute tally, stringing passes together and creating chances throughout the remaining 44 minutes of play, but were ultimately unable to equalize.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s played FC Greater Boston to a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Greater Boston’s Marc Greenblatt scored in the opening minute of the match to give the home side a lead that held until the 38th minute, when Amadu Kunateh (Salem, Mass.) combined with Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) to equalize. On the other side of the break, Alex Ainscough scored a penalty kick goal in the 43rd minute to put Greater Boston ahead once more. Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) replied with a penalty kick goal of his own in the 68th minute and the teams remained knotted, 2-2, at the final whistle.

With the loss, the Under-18 team (8-8-3, 27 pts.) slipped to fifth place in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference. With the draw, the Under-16 team (11-6-2, 35 pts.) are now in third place in the Division.

The youth teams will face FC Greater Boston in the second portion of the teams’ home and away series on Monday, May 28, at the Fruit Street Athletic Field Complex in Hopkinton, Mass.
