Revs head to Real Salt Lake for July 4 tilt on ESPN2

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution (3-8-6, 15 pts.) will head to the Wasatch Front in the Rocky Mountains for the Fourth of July holiday, facing CONCACAF Champions League finalist Real Salt Lake (7-3-5, 26 pts.) at Rio Tinto Stadium on Monday, July 4, at 8:30 p.m. ET. The match will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and carried locally on the radio by 98.5 The Sports Hub.

The Revs will try to take advantage of their seven-day layoff between matches to prepare for the match. Coming off of a 2-1 loss to Seattle Sounders FC last weekend, the Revs will look to end their seven-game winless streak and notch their first road win of the season at one of the league’s toughest away venues.

SERIES INFORMATION AGAINST REAL SALT LAKE

Team information vs. Real Salt Lake

  • Monday’s match will be the 14th all-time meeting between the Revolution and Real Salt Lake, which entered the league as an expansion team in 2005 … RSL leads the all-time series, 6-4-3, following their victory at Gillette Stadium earlier this year
  • The Revs are 2-3-1 in away matches against Real Salt Lake, and are 0-2-0 in matches played at Rio Tinto Stadium … in matches played at Rio Tinto Stadium, New England has been out-scored 11-0 combined in 2009 and 2010, with a 6-0 loss two years ago and a 5-0 loss last year
  • Monday’s match is the second of two meetings between the two clubs this season, and the only one at Rio Tinto Stadium ... earlier this year on April 9, RSL notched a 2-0 victory over New England at Gillette Stadium
  • Real Salt Lake has won the last three meetings between these two teams ... the Revs’ last win came in a 3-1 victory at home on August 23, 2009

Player Notes vs. Real Salt Lake

  • Kheli Dube is the team’s active leading scorer against RSL, recording three goals and adding one assist in six games … all three of his goals came in one match – on Aug. 23, 2009 in a 3-1 win at Gillette Stadium
  • Sainey Nyassi is the only other current player who has scored against Real, notching the Revs’ only goal against RSL in the 2010 campaign in the team’s 2-1 loss at home on Oct. 2, 2010
  • Three players – Shalrie Joseph, Ryan Cochrane and Marko Perović – have recorded assists against RSL
  • Matt Reis is 4-4-3 in his career against Real Salt Lake, posting a 1.55 goals against average and three shutouts … despite injuries that kept him sidelined early on and towards the end of last season, Reis started in both meetings with RSL in 2010

TEAM NOTES

The Bags are Packed and Staying Packed
The Revs are in the midst of a stretch that sees them play five of six games on the road through the month of July ... the team will have just a single home league game - on Sunday, July 17 against Philadelphia – in that six-week span (June 26-July 30) ... the team’s travels have already taken them to Seattle (June 26) with Salt Lake (July 4), D.C. (July 20), Colorado (July 23) and Kansas City (July 30) all up on deck, before they play four of their next five games at Gillette Stadium to open August ... so far the Revs are winless on the road, going 0-6-2 in their eight previous attempts.

Road Woes
The Revs are still searching for their first road victory of the 2011 season, entering next Monday’s game with an 0-6-2 mark in away games ... after drawing their first two road efforts - at LA (March 20, 1-1) and at Vancouver (April 6, 1-1), the Revs have dropped each of their last six road games ... in eight road games, the Revs have scored just five road goals - one each at LA (Shalrie Joseph), Vancouver (Ilija Stolica), San Jose (Chris Tierney), New York (Zak Boggs) and Seattle (Sainey Nyassi).

Still Searching for Western Win
Monday’s match in Salt Lake will give the Revs an opportunity to snap a 13-game winless streak in matches played in the Mountain or Pacific Time zones, which dates back to September of 2009 … since earning a 1-0 win at Seattle on Aug. 20, 2009, New England is 0-10-3 in matches played in the Rockies or on the West Coast, and is just 2-12-3 since the start of 2009 in the two Western time zones.

Really Hard Times in Salt Lake
The Revs come into Monday’s game winless at Salt Lake since the 2007 season … the Revs’ last win on the road against Salt Lake came in 2007, a 2-1 win behind goals from Pat Noonan and Jeff Larentowicz … in the last two seasons, the Revs have lost both matches at Rio Tinto Stadium by a combined score of 11-0 (6-0 in 2009 and 5-0 in 2010) … in 2008, RSL claimed a 2-1 win at Rice-Eccles Stadium, following a 0-0 draw in 2006 … New England won the team’s first-ever trip to Salt Lake, a 1-0 win in 2005.

Honorary Western Conference Members
Monday’s match against Salt Lake will mark the Revolution’s 12th match – in 18 games – against Western Conference teams … the Revs have only played fellow Eastern Conference members six times so far this season … the Revs come into Monday’s match with a 1-6-4 mark against teams from the West with the sole win coming against Vancouver on May 14 … the team’s four draws came at LA (March 20), against Portland (April 2), at Vancouver (April 6) and against Colorado (May 7).

Benny’s Back
After missing four games with a right ankle sprain, Benny Feilhaber returned to action on Sunday at Seattle … Feilhaber wasted little time impacting the game, picking up an assist on Sainey Nyassi’s third-minute goal … it was Feilhaber’s second assist of the season and first since April 23 against Kansas City … Feilhaber played 90 minutes against Seattle in his return.

Sainey Strikes
Sainey Nyassi recorded his first goal of the 2011 season with his third-minute goal on Sunday in Seattle … it was his eighth career goal and first since October 2, 2010, when he scored against Real Salt Lake at home … Nyassi has recorded at least two goals in each of his three previous full MLS seasons (he joined the team in September 2007), with a career-high three goals last season in 2010.

Closing in on Record Winless Streak
With Sunday’s loss at Seattle, the Revs have now gone seven league games winless, which matches the second-longest winless streak in club history ... three times prior the team has gone seven games without a win:

April 17 – May 22, 2010 (0-5-2), May 20 – June 24, 2006 (0-2-5), July 11 – August 21, 1999 (0-7-0) … the club’s longest winless streak came in the 1998 season, when the team lost nine straight games (0-9-0) between May 13 and July 1.

San Jose Home Game Moved
The Revs’ home match against San Jose, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 3, has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 8 ... for season ticket holders, their original tickets - labeled Game 11 - will still be valid and should be used for the Oct. 8 match.

MLS Futbolito Returns July 17
Hundreds of soccer players from all over the region will be in action on Sunday, July 17, when Futbolito, the official 4-v-4 tournament of Major League Soccer, returns to the New England area … MLS Futbolito is being presented locally by MetroPCS … for the first time ever, the men’s premier championship match will be played on the game field during halftime of the Revolution’s match against the Philadelphia Union that evening … registration is currently open at MLSfutbolito.com and interested participants with questions can call toll-free at 1-888-MLS-FUTBOLITO … the entrance fee is $150 per team for those competing in the Adult Premier Division, and $120 per team for all other participants.

Under-16s End Season at U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs
The Revs’ Under-16 squad went 1-2-0 in this weekend’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs, and failed to advance to the finals … after a 2-1 win against North Carolina Fusion on Saturday, June 25 – with both goals coming from Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) – the Revs dropped a pair of one-goal games in their last two group-play contests … on Sunday, the U16s fell to Texas Rush AJ Auxerre, 2-1, with Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) scoring the lone goal for New England … earlier today, the U16s dropped a 4-3 match to Southern California’s Pateadores as Fagundez scored two more goals.

Under-18s Wrap Up Season at Showcase
T
he Under-18s also played this past weekend at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase in Frisco, Texas, going 1-1-1 in three matches … Fabio Machado, Jr., (Leominster, Mass.) scored two goals and added four assists, while Cole Denormandie (Lincoln, Mass.) had two goals and two assists … on Friday, the Revs came from behind to earn a 3-2 win against Clearwater Chargers, before dropping a 3-2 decision against Minnesota’s Shattuck-Saint Mary’s on Saturday … in their final action, the Revs played to a 2-2 draw against Ohio’s Internationals.
