Injury Report – August 31, 2010

The Revolution’s athletic training staff upgraded four players in Tuesday’s Injury Report, the last report before Wednesday’s SuperLiga 2010 championship match between the Revs and Mexico’s Monarcas Morelia. Two players have been upgraded off the list entirely, while two more who did not play on Saturday night against Philadelphia made the upward climb on the list.

NE Injury Report – August 31, 2010

PROBABLE: Kevin Alston (L hamstring strain), Cory Gibbs (L ankle sprain), Matt Reis (low back pain)

QUESTIONABLE: Zak Boggs (concussion), Nico Colaluca (R ankle sprain)

DOUBTFUL: Jason Griffiths (L hamstring strain), Edgaras Jankauskas (L adductor strain)

OUT: Preston Burpo (R leg surgery), Taylor Twellman (concussion)

UNAVAILABLE: Kenny Mansally (Gambia National Team), Sainey Nyassi (Gambia National Team)

Off the list entirely are Kheli Dube (R MCL sprain) and Marko Perovi? (L plantar fasciitis) have both come off the list. Perovi? started and played 90 minutes on Saturday, while Dube was available for selection and a member of the 17-man gameday roster. While he did not see any action, he was available for selection for the first time since the end of the July when he picked up the knee injury.

Also upgraded – both to PROBABLE - were Kevin Alston (L hamstring strain) and Matt Reis (low back pain), neither of whom played on Saturday night because of their injuries. Alston was a full participant in training both days this week, while Reis returned to the field to work with the goalkeeping unit on both Monday and Tuesday. Alston was officially QUESTIONABLE last Friday, while Reis was DOUBTFUL on the last report.

Cory Gibbs (L ankle sprain) played 90 minutes at center back on Saturday night and has trained all week, yet remains listed as PROBABLE on the injury list while his ankle continues to return to full strength.

Zak Boggs (concussion) and Nico Colaluca (R ankle sprain) continue to remain listed as QUESTIONABLE. Both returned to full training this week and their status for this week’s games remains in the hands of the medical and technical staffs.

Jason Griffiths (L hamstring strain) and Edgaras Jankauskas (L adductor strain) remain DOUBTFUL and spent the first two training sessions of the week working off to the side with the athletic training staff, focusing on agility and endurance exercises.

Two other players will be missing from both matches this week as Gambian midfielders Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi have both been called in to Gambia’s National Team ahead of its African Nations Cup qualifier against Namibia on Saturday. As the game falls on a FIFA international date both players were compelled to join the squad on the call-in day, five days ahead of the competition. Mansally, who has five caps for Gambia, and Nyassi, who has two, will be joined in Banjul, Gambia, by Nyassi’s identical twin brother, Sanna, who also was called in to camp, and thus will also not be available on Saturday when his Seattle Sounders FC travel to Foxborough to face the Revs.
